On Windows 8/8.1 yes

Classic Shill doesn't follow the Microsoft Design Language guidances so it's automatically shit. Full screen start is the only start menu that you should have in W10
I choose... GENTOO!
>>59150078
What's a good open source alternative?
Classic Shell's reasons for going closed sound shady as fuck

Huh
I use Start10 and think it's
great
>>59150078
Yes. It's pretty much necessary if you use the start menu search. Without it you're stuck with cortana's shitty search, and the native menu can't even search the full index.
Ideally just don't use windows 10 at all.

you have to go back to plebbit.

Does Microsoft even do this?
I tried it once, found that the original start menu is way more useful, uninstalled it.
What for?
Can you still get win10 for free?
How?
i minda want to try it in a VM, I'm sick of broken shit on debian

Just made the same experience

Windows 7
who spends more than a few seconds looking at the start menu? this is useless desu.
Start10 is better
>>59150693
You can uninstall it without having a license key and AFAIK use it indefinitely.
Source: installed mine in December 2015 checking "I don't have a license key" during installation.
>>59150693
You can use it indefinitely, albeit with some restrictions like changing wallpaper and some other stuff. They can be bypassed though, there's an article somewhere about this.
Or just activate it with mstoolkit and be done with it.

lamo at ur lyf
>>59150870
Nobody does.
But I like to press Windows key, start typing whatever I'm looking for, hit enter
This way I launch all my applications, documents and whatnot
>>59150078
If you use the search to look for executables you need a 3rd party start menu or tool.Cortana won't show results for """dangerous""" file types even if you have full indexing on.
Also the app list is complete trash compared to the old version which has an actual structure instead of being a flat list.
>>59150078
Depends, does it get rid of the spying?
>>59151171
No but Win10 Enterprise or Education does
