OP here. Used to have an X6 1090T. The Radeon 6870 is the only component left from that build. The best piece of shit I ever had. I bought it just half a year before Battlefield 3 and Skyrim and those ran pretty good.

you can get it legitimately, just skip the activation step. Full w10, just have a little prompt on the bottom right telling you to activate.

>>
>>59153835
Are you saying you bought it new? If that's the case maybe Speccy is fucky. Run the Intel diagnostic software. If it comes back as not genuine they sold you a computer with a stolen processor in it.
>>
>>59154752
Yes it was purchased by the university new as far as I know. I posted the speccy as a joke about upgrading, but if there's something fishy I really want to know to discuss with the IT folks. How exactly is it a stolen CPU? Is the intel diagnostic software pre-installed or is there a download for it?

Engineering samples are given out by Intel to hardware validators, system integrators, etc. They're done so under an agreement and remain Intel property.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool
>>
>>59155691
Interesting, I'll check this out tomorrow. If it's an engineering sample, is that a bad thing? And what exactly is it about speccy that indicates it is one?
>>
>>59155873
Speccy should give the full name of the processor, but it might not if it's out of date. Engineering samples can have different errata from retail chips that isn't documented well, such as broken feature implementations that aren't even disabled like they would be in a retail version. There'a also the part where it's stolen which people usually aren't concerned about for some reason. If I was an organization of some sort like you seem to be a part of, I'd be very concerned that I have stolen equipment/I'm being vended stolen equipment.
