Think Snowden. There's a reason MS are trying to get everyone onto Windows 10 - even by giving it away free. Also, by co-opting Linux features into Windows 10 they're trying to lessen the amount of reasons someone would make the switch. Why go through the hassle of learning Linux when you can have some of its features right there in Windows 10.

It's basically a form of buyers regret as well as insecurity. Windows users see lincucks doing what they do for free, so they have to rationalise to themselves that the experience must be somehow worse. Those who do try linux either appreciate it in which case they become lincucks, or they're too stupid to, in which case they become cagey and defensive.
