I switched to an iPhone SE after having been with Android since day one. The OS is a bit of a mess, but the phone is nicer than anything Google's partners ever made for the Nexus line.

Also, I escaped a botnet designed to sell my shit to the highest bidder and replaced it with a botnet designed to get me to buy more shit.

This is probably the best thread to ask. I'm looking to buy a mac for my computer collection, to experience OS10, and give it a shot.

How do I avoid overpaying? If I can't avoid overpaying, what is the best way to minimize it while still buying a mac?

I will mostly use this computer to run webapps, develop a website, and other office tasks.

I don't mind the headphone jack meme but I was due for a replacement since my xperia z3 died so I went and got myself an iphone 7. I do really like the hardware and how it feels in your hand, it's perfect for one hand usage and I realized that big screens are a meme.

However, iOS is a piece of fucking trash. Every single day you run into minor annoyances and retarded restrictions that eventually add up until the point where you have just had enough with all the bullshit, so I gave it to my mom and bought an oneplus 3t. Yeah, it's a giant slab that doesn't feel nearly as good as the iphone but it's much better than the castrated garbage that iOS is. I also hated how iOS looks, the icons are so fucking goofy, it looks like they were designed for and by children. Felt kinda off. It basically felt like wearing a permanent chastity belt in a No Fun Allowed zone. If they changed that, which they won't, I'd be right back on board.

Apple needs to get its shit together with their shitastic battery life and mind numbingly slow charging though. This is a premium device and it certainly didn't feel like one in some main areas, mainly battery and water proof.

Charging isn't an issue. In a 2hr charge iphone 7 was 75% i think it was, nexus was 100% (after 1hr30), pixel was 98%. Obviously not as good but hardily something to cry about like a little bitch.

If it at least had great battery life then it would be ok, but you have shit battery life + slow charging = shit experience. My biggest beef with apple is the iOS updates. really do we need new icons every fucking year!? My phone has gotten like 8 or 10 updates now and the only functional difference is the decreased battery life and extreme lag its acquired. As far as I can tell the only thing that changes is the icons

why new icons would even be part of a regular update is bewildering to me. Just goes to show where Apples priorities are.

Pointless restrictions in iOS are very real. It does add up after a while and becomes very frustrating.

I'm unaware of what bullshit you're talking about. If you're talking about installing custom ROMs and customizing your phone themes, etc., that's a totally optional thing. I installed a custom ROM because I enjoy the freedoms it offers me over the default ROM. A lot of people don't care for that, so they don't do that. I don't care for custom themes, so I don't do that.

As someone who has met people owning products by Apple even in IT oriented fields, I can say this: Apple is good up to a point.

This means: If you want something basically unbreakable, get a Mac. I see DJs and office workers (in IT) using them simply because they do what they are told to do out of the box.

Example time:

Got into a company with a coworker. Coworker got a Mac, I got a Linux box (Debian, I asked for it). It took me a full day before I got everything I needed in order, the girl could do all the work in basically an hour. Sure, now she bitches more than I do because she connects to local Samba server via Finder (or whatever it's called) and I've got a keyboard shortcut in i3, but still the point stands: It's out of the box functionality that sells Apple.

Anyway, as someone who hates macs and develops websites on them, I have to ask you - why the fuck? Erm, what exactly you're going to do?
To justify using mac, you should go for Ruby on Rails or something along the lines. To develop something proper, you'll have to run a DB server (or two) on your machine, app server and likely a VM for some of that shit. It's not CPU-intensive, but it shit ups your RAM quickly. Not to mention web development implies a browser running too.

Don't follow advises of de/g/enerates who'll tell you to buy a 2010/2012 mac, because you'll hate that piece of crap - they don't know what they are talking about, they only use it for shitposting.
You see, OSX is not only shit inherently - it's also shit at managing resources and especially RAM. Optimization there is done through an asshole, so if you are running low on memory, background apps get shut down. And "background apps" in OSX is fucking everything. You'll get multisecond lag on all elementary actions like window managing, language switching, overlay pop-ups, search functions, and so on.

So, if you want a mac for the hay of it - by a new model. You won't need a powerful CPU, but be sure that thing has enough memory for your tasks - that's all you'll need.
