Personally, I use it because there's no DMCA there and they index all the pirated content that Google removes. You can find all the good shit on Yandex. They also have the best image search.

I cannot see anything wrong with the search engine, it's even the default search engine of the Tor Browser Bundle and GNU IceCat. Searx is a nice alternative that you can run on your own machine.
