I would say chrome is more for normies since you dont have to tweak it to get good performance.
With the right tweaks in about:config firefox works just as well for me and respects my privacy, something normies wouldnt care about.

google talks about chrome being sandboxed etc but I've never seen a browser so easily malware ridden since old IE

firefox allows extensions to do pretty much anything (probably this won't be the case soon though, as they switch to WebExtensions standard), configs aren't hidden from user, privacy is better than in other user-friendly browsers as result. also you can turn off botnet if you want.
