Likely because Aero is drawn using the GPU, instead of the CPU, which was a big deal when it first came around. Since then I doubt they've spent any energy on maintaining classic theme and 2D rendering using the cpu

Every Windows 7 theme I ever tried was weirdly inconsistent. Either fucked with firefox, didn't look "right" in the windows explorer, or made the font shitty.

personally, I think classic theme looks perfect but you can get fancier themes easily

Enable Aero. Wndow color black. Transparency to taste. Done.

Use 3dcc (3D Color Changer) to rice Windows Classic themes
