Which is superior for which applications?

UltraWide for webdev, programming, video edit and video games(games support 21:9).
4K for watch video and photos.
As someone who edits video nearly every day, ultrawide > everything else. For games, I prefer 4k purely because it's supported a lot better than ultrawide.

ultrawide for everything but gaming
ultrawide for work
4k for video and work
144hz 1440p for games
that's all there is to it.
The one with the most pixels and a sane aspect ratio (not 21:9)

4K if that's available.
Most likely you're looking at UHD though.
Ultrawide is shit. Pay more to lose vertical screen space.
1440 is a meme.
4K is the real upgrade at 30+ inches.
And just look at it this way. You can get a 40" Samsung 6300 for like $500 for so. 40" at UHD with VA panel. For most ultrawides, you get 34" UHD but without 1/3 or so of the screen (something like 3440x1440) and shit IPS with shit blacks, light bleed (this is what IPStards refer to as "IPS glow"), and usually $800+. For a co,puter monitor at regular viewing distance, 32" @ 4K/UHD is ideal with 125% scaling. If you use a 40" display and think it's too big, just move the display back/mount it on the wall.
Any ultrawide display, you can get a cheaper 16:9 display with the same horizontal resolution, but MORE vertical resolution.
You're literally paying more to get less.

Can you even get 144fps on most new games?
>>59116591
multiple 4k monitors.
>>59116591
4k. My roommate has ultrawide and I have a 28' 4k and its like you took mine and cut the top off. I also paid quite a bit less as well, but Idk the general price of ultrawide

Why not get a screen that has both?

with a 1080 you should be able to.
i have a 980ti and i get anywhere from 80 to 150 @1440p, depending on the game (max settings). you can already tell the difference at 80fps, gsync is a bonus.
i capped it at 120 for ulmb, though. in games where it really matters (i.e. multiplayer games) i get a constant 120. they're all optimized pretty well (ut4, dota 2) or have old graphics (tf2).
i had a 630m before that, so i don't really care about lowering the settings a bit for the full 120fps.
but with a 1080 or maybe even a 1070 you should be fine for now.

you'll never make it in advertisement with that attitude

I bought some shitty LG for 150 euro's.
Only 1080p though, and the stand and ports are a joke, but image quality is pretty nice (typical IPS).
