Same here, but let's be honest.
Things that you will be able to buy soon or at all:
>a new BB10 device
>the thinkpad retro
pick none.

But I'm afraid it's not for me. Seems fucking huge, and android really is a problem.
Apparently the use stock android, and that is just terrible. I have more information on my Q10s 3.5 inch screen, than my gf has on her 5 inch android, because every button is fucking huge, and there is white space everywhere. Also, the whole OS looks like it was designed for and by kids.
They even didnt really implement the hub and gestures, but instead use androids default press-back-100-times retarded way of doing things.
And thanks to their focus on security, you can't even load another rom that might make android bearable.
>>
>>59107049
Blame the market.
>>
>>59106929
Half of me wants to buy it to contribute to BB not going bankrupt.

Half of me wants to just go and get a BB Q10 or a Classic so they realize they still have a market in those.

I'm not sure what to do desu
>>
Will it be rootable? This decides whether I buy it or not.
>>
>>59110661
Of course it will not be.
That's their whole marketing pitch. OS is signed and locked to the device, so that no one can tamper with it.
>security!

Now, I totally agree with this in theory, but in practice, android is an unusable POS when stock, so the device is also an unusable POS. Unless BB comes to their senses and develops a sane BB10 skin for android to make that heap of dogshit usable.

Did you get the memo that phones are now so fucking huge that a portrait keyboard is now as big as a landscape keyboard, back when they still made those?

Anyways, the BB keyboard is better than any crappy landscape one I have ever used.

for all I care, landscape can die on mobiles. Only usefull for games, and those can die too.

No landscape keyboard=no sale.

Portrait keyboards are worse than no keyboard. The first company to make a modern landscape slider gets a sale from both me and my wife instantly.

I think it's a shitty portrait keyboard having piece of disappointment and failure.

>>59116132
It's better than the failure that was the Priv, but $550's a bit high considering its specs alone. I was hoping for $450 or perhaps even $400. In the end I'm probably going to buy it since I can sell my current phone for at least $150 to bring the net cost down, and because I can't wait to go back to physical keyboards after years of settling with onscreen keyboards.

Protip: specialized niches are more profitable than dumping your now close to worthless brand into the main market that is saturated with competition

There is a large demand for secure devices that can be deployed with an OS that is already integrated into all the corporate policies and software. Deploying iOShit or Lagdroid for secure enterprise/gov environments is a nightmare currently. Too bad upper management and execs are mentally retarded and keep putting out abortions with Android and a physical keyboard, as if there is a relevant market that cares about them anymore.

My Passport is probably my favorite phone. I will always have a soft spot for my Palm Pre though haha. I miss my windows 7 Palm Treo too. Ah, gadgets gadgets gadgets!

I agree with your posts on Android design btw. Everything is so jarring at first, especially when you come from older design language that really did focus on beauty through utility. (something I actually think apple did really well expanding upon with their OS until it got crushed under it's own weight)

I may try buying a red Passport still and just swap phones whenever I go out. May pick up a classic too, eventually.

I'll care win Blackberry makes a phone that runs Ubuntu.
>>
>>59118204
Sad but true. I love BB10.

>I personally don't mind using alt for my numbers, but I wish they were spanned across the top row of letters rather than being in a 3x3 block on the left side of the keyboard.
They do this to mimic a traditional phone's numpad, as the phone app on previous blackberry devices recognized numbers on the keyboard but not letters

And couldn't BB just use a software keyboard for that? Kind of like the Apple touchbar, but in a useful context?

Who are they trying to fool?

BB has some nice hardware security features added to their android phones that mitigate some of this stuff. Others are mitigated by monthly updates and reactionary security patches. It also has a grsecurity patched kernel. Agree it's still swiss cheese.

>>59108479
If only there was a properly specced BB10 phone without that abortion of a keyboard. I'll be getting one soon, though.

>>59109090
>Stylus
This and the ability to swap the capacitive keyboard to trackpad mode outside of text fields. Even an OEM case with a stylus would be excellent for signatures and markup.

>>59110383
Android hurts, but unless you're willing to develop your own apps to seal the functionality gap, you're stuck with the hobbled products that BB is slapping their name on. I would go back to BB10 if not for the need of a video calling application.

You can work around not having native ad block either by using firefox mobile + ublock or maintaining an ad blocking proxy server or VPN.

>>59113226
Possibly notification LED, light sensor, proximity sensor, whatever other sensors are trendy these days... the front camera also has a flash.

>>59113243
The question is whether you'll be able to use the software BB keyboard. That's truly the greatest point of their modern phones.

>>59115079
The key problems with dealing with the terminal are still here. No tab, no ctrl, no arrow keys or home row, no corrective assists when dealing with the command line, etc. I have a Priv but still jockey between the hacker's keyboard (cramped, no swipe to delete so typos are frustrating) and soft/hard keyboard.

>>59116132
$100-150 overpriced with a questionable market outside of /g/-tier, autists, experimenters, hipsters, current corporate clients.

>>59118461
A phone powerful enough to run sandboxed OS's and/or apps is my dream. I need a second phone for chinese botnet and a third for North American facebook+ botnet.

The keyboard is capacitive, but yeah.. would do well with a trackpad, especially as android has mouse functionality built in.

They're not failing. They are a software company and phones are just side stuff. If you research stuff like QNX you see that blackberry is still a very profitable company. You just have an outdated view point of them and assume they give a shit about trying to please the average Android user. They are aiming for corporations to partner this phone with the software they're selling. That's the end game. The BlackBerry keyone is just a side thing that corporations can benefit from. This isn't marketed towards you and I. They also don't give a shit what's the opinion of normies when it comes to this.

>>59113323
blackberry won't even blink twice before handing over your data to whomever is asking for it. ever since that press release, blackberry can fuck off and die as far as i'm concerned
>>
>blackberry selling your data to gubments
>not even waterproof
0 interest. why the fuck should anyone care about blackberry again...?
>>
>>59109285
no, all that's left is the brand, most of the people that made cool stuff at NOKIA are working in other places. When Microsoft took over a lot of the good guys left and the rest started leaving each time Microsoft failed to deliver. It's a fucking empty husk.
World has changed, you need to adapt or just be forgotten and even though NOKIA post Microsoft could not build a single fucking phone to save it's ass could you blame them? Blackberry is in a similar position but at least they got TCL to make their shit.

I want a BB Password with android next.
>>
Bump, because hype.
>>
I kinda want one, just because of the fact that it has a unique look, even though it's totally ugly. The design language they had on the Q10 was much nicer.
Anyone yet found some size comparisons? I would be really interested about how much larger than the Q10 it is.
>>
>>59123867
It is marketed towards me
I've been waiting for this phone for months
>>

Source on them selling people's data?
>>
It's a $299 phone, more accurately about $259 at best, certainly not $549 so fuck it, BlackBerry is dead.

His OWN tweets are sent from an android. The campaign tweets are coming from an iPhone. Or now the announcements etc.

So what if it is dead, you're not buying stocks but product.

this. I like having both but before smartphones were a thing and I was just browsing on a desktop I never thought "I wish I could touch these webpages"
>>
>>59106929
I really hate that silver/white thing at the top. Should've keep it black. Would still probably buy it if it is available in my country and cost $100 less. Shitposting on my q10 with clover was so comfy.

>Any hype for this?
Niet

The recent cloudbleed incident has made me super fucking paranoid about security and passwords and all that so now I have Keepass on my computer and cellphone and for every account I have online.

I'm seriously considering a BlackBerry phone because people say they have extra security features on a hardware/kernel level, which is nice. But how are BlackBerry with monthly security updates and keeping the Android version up-to-date?

Does anyone here have the Priv? What Android version is it on?
>>
>>59106929
I'd get one if I have the money. The last phone I used with a physical keyboard was the Nokia c3
>Less smudge on the screen

fuck apple
>>
>>59118119

I would agree that it is a solid smartphone for $249-299, but utterly fucking overpriced bullshit at twice that.

>look folks, it's the worlds first 16:10 smartphone
>LG one-ups them with an 18:9 display a day later
>both companies are fucking stupid at this point in time, LG was so good there for a short window in reality with the G2/G3 and even the G4 except for the boot loop issues
>rear-mounted controls = fucking superior
>idiots
>>
>>59126796

When it comes to OS updates they're slow but they're super fast with security updates. Probably the fastest company to release security updates out of all of them.
>>
>>59115079
It's funny you should say that because my last day one purchase was actually a blackberry. The storm. The clicky screen was supposed to be an iPhone killer. It was not.
>>
>>59113577
>its like you want it to break in under a month, slide out keyboards have always been terrible

Wrong.

Case in point: nokia n900 and n950.

Fuck off.
