OCUK staffer “Gibbo” reports successfully overclocking a retail Ryzen 7 1700 processor with an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard ($255) to 4.05GHz on all 8 cores. With this overclock the CPU would effectively be running 450MHz higher than the Ryzen 7 1800X flagship, which is very impressive considering the huge price delta between the two chips as well as the low 65W TDP of the 1700. “Gibbo” estimates, based on his results, that the 1800X should be able to hit 4.3GHz on all 8 cores.

We just tested a 1700, it hit 4.0GHz stable in everything, but ONLY in the Crosshair mainboard ($255), the lower-end boards it was hovering around 3.80GHz as the VRM’s were cooking with extra voltage. It however was maxing around 4050MHz, so I’d say 1700 can do 3.9-4.1GHz, of course the 1800X will probably do 4.1-4.3 as no doubt better binned, but if your clocking the motherboard has a big impact on the overclock and so far Asus Crosshair and Asrock Taichi seem the best two.

95% Kaby Lake single core performance, much faster multi-threaded performance over kabylake just because of it's 8 cores versus 4.

It has weaker AVX performance but it's a niche instruction set anyways.

Overall it's a great choice for a desktop, and there's all kinds of tricks and tech built in that make it a great choice

The only things one should care about are facts, Ryzen looks very promising and I really hope for hopecoming users that it'll hold up to its promises that'd be great for competition and lower prices for everyone.

Ryzen will not BTFO Intel any soon, Intel will still have a monopoly in apple devices or anything thunderbolt related.

If you want to be redpilled regarding Ryzen, buy one and test it or wait for non-amd reviews.

Price compared to Intel and increased performance over AMDs last processor line up
(All monetary values are in USD.)

The R7 lineup isn't meant to compete with the 7700k for solely video games. It's meant to show how price gouging the Jews at Intel really are with their 4+ core processors. What's really meant to compete with Intel's mainstream processors is the R5, and on the very low end, the R3.

In the R5 lineup, the competitors for the i7 7700k will be the 1600x and 1400x. With the 1600x you get 6c/12t which will fare better than an i7 7700k in anything that uses more than 4 cores and will have near single-threaded parity for 259. Not to mention that the base and turbo clocks for the 1600x have been revised from 3.3/3.7 to 3.6/4.0. And as we can tell at this moment, AMD may (might not but we'll find out in a couple days time) have nearly identical single thread performance clock for clock with Skylake/Kabylake.

There's also the 4c/8t 1400x for 199 whose clocks from the earlier leaks (the same one understating the clocks of the 1600x) is 3.5/3.9 which I'm willing to bet will increase. That's near identical 7700k performance for 60 percent the price.
You can get a 1400x (200), a B350 motherboard(80-100), and 8gb of DDR4 RAM(50-60), for about the same price as a 7700k (340-350).

AMD isn't trying to reclaim the all around desktop performance throne. That spot is saved for Zen+. It's trying to be as good for far cheaper, or far better in some areas for slightly less cheaper.

The only problem? The R5 doesn't release until Q2. Which, knowing AMD, means the end of June.

Because Intel went full jew in the last years. AMD doesn't even have their own foundry and even like that Intel charges more for 5% higher clockspeeds and 3% more performance each year. Also there s no way they have a new worthy architecture ready, get ready for a tic-toc-toc-toc cycle.

>>
>>59109937
tax is hidden because the most common way you'll see a price listed is in an advertisement
advertisements circulate to dozens of counties at a time, and each county can set its own sales tax
it would take a lot of extra space to show the counties at 3% the ones at 4.5%, or 5%, 5.5%, 7.5%, 8.5%, etc
it doesn't make much sense inside of stores to have it absent though, because once you're inside the tax is kind of a locked value

tipping is just a custom that you wind up looking like a jerk for not following

last generation had plenty of 4 core min games, due to consoles.

This generation the two main consoles are 8 cores. This will drive games to utilize them, just like last generation with 4.

Redpill? You want the real redpill here? Here it is:

You're probably not the kind of person who really needs a top of the line CPU. You feel the need to buy the most expensive shit because of your country's consumerist attitudes and marketing made by people who have no real idea of what they're selling, targeted at people just like you. In fact, you could probably get away with a mid-tier, 2 generation old CPU and have more than enough computational power. Quite frankly, you'd probably be better off with a 2 generation old CPU, because it would have better linux driver support, still work with Windows 10 and cost less money.

Unless you know that you have work that would need all that computational power, it's going to be wasted on you, and do you know how I know that you're not going to use it? Because you're here on /g/, asking about in super generic terms. If it was something you needed, you'd already know and you'd understand the differences between Ryzen and Intel's chips because it would actually matter to your work.

'It's upsetting to have to say, but should be said. As an IT Director I have already been approached by an Intel representative to discuss the "special promotions" and "Incentive rebates" that they are willing to offer me for purchasing exclusively Intel powered servers. I was not well received when I explained that I would not be purchasing anything until I see the benchmarks of the new Ryzen (naples) core and compare the cost-to-performance ratio. It was at that point they made it very clear that they would go to great lengths from a financial standpoint to incentivize me to NOT purchase AMD chips.

These are the tactics that were used back in the day that AMD had feared would be used again. Intel offered "loyalty rebates" and other clever promotions to hide the fact that they were paying customers to lock out the competition. I sincerely hope that other IT Directors and all in IT in general do what's best for the industry and choose based off of what's best for the consumer and their environment. The rebates are nice and all, but if we continue to hurt AMD for a small rebate, we destroy AMD's ability to compete and enable Intel to continue their "Tick-Tock" releases and oppressive pricing.

Be aware folks, Intel is scared and is already looking to use their weight and $'s to NOT out innovate, but to obstruct competitions ability to enter the marketplace. Why else would they be contacting and attempting to "Incentivize" customers well before the launch of AMD's server chips in Q2-Q3? '

Need I say more?
