I'll start: What's a good VPN? Preferably one that's not overused by chinese gold farmers. I plan to use it mainly for torrents, but also to play OSRS
>>

nigga have you not been noticing the dcs lately, but I heard PIA is cheap
>>
>open song on clementine
>everything is fine, album art is correct
>open same song on foobar
>wrong album art
I know the album art of the file is fine, in windows explorer and in clementine it is how it should be. What should I do to make foobar display the right art?
>>
>>59104659
Apparently the DCs/lag have been a geographical issue. Some people in the east coast have been playing without issues, while people on the west coast can't even open the client.

And I'm looking into PIA, it seems pretty good so far

When can I stop being paranoid about Windows 10?
I've done about everything I can think of to get rid of the bloat. Did a fresh install. Deleted the appxpackage and tile bullshit. Disabled a bunch of services along with the Windows updates.
But, I always feel like shit is going on behind my back. Like, the ethernet port flashes when the computer is off and theres still active services using the cpu when I'm sitting at the desktop doing nothing.
It's a fucking nightmare not being able to trust your own computer.

This is only going to hurt you, you should turn the updates back on.

You should learn more on how a computer works, this happens because the NIC never really turn off for most computers.

What laptop should I replace my lenovo y50 with? I originally got it for college/gaming, but after three years I realize I don't like lugging it around campus, and the screen is having problems from carrying it around. Plus having the battery die after two hours blows.

I want something lighter, cheaper, and with an actual battery life. I'm in a bit over my head you guys, our Red Hat admin quit not long ago and I've pretty much been left out to dry on this. I know some basics, but a true grasp of packages and repos eludes me. I'm trying to mount an NFS share to a folder, but it seems like I've got a broken alias to nfs. Other mounts work fine, but when I try to install nfs-utils, I get this error and --skip-broken doesn't help.

Error: Package: kmod-stcvsm-3.10.0-229.el7-6.1.0-35.el7.x86_64 (@storagecraft-repo)

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

I did a clean install of Windows 8.1, and all it does is get stuck searching for updates. I've tried searching for answers which leads me to try installing certain updates, but it just results in "The update is not applicable to your computer." each time I try every KBwhatever people suggest to download and install. This is a clean 8.1 install with no updates installed whatsoever, and I'd really rather not use 10. Is there anything else I can try?

Don't know why you don't just buy a camera, some lenses, and a Chinese tripod all separately instead. You don't need photoshop pro, you don't need a carrying case, you don't need wipes, etc. You'll save money, and you may even get a better camera if you buy things separately.

I'm building a pc for a family member. They don't game, but they want a 27" 1440p monitor for the space, or something. They wouldn't be using the pc for anything particularly special, no graphic design, no professional audio stuff.
Would the HD 630 igpu be sufficient for normal use on a 1440p 60hz monitor, or should I add on a cheap gpu like a 460 or something? I've read that it's possible to use the igpu if the mobo has dual link dvi, but would it work fine in all office-use-type circumstances? How about in 5 years (they want this built to last)?

>>59107259
Yeah, intel integrated should be fine. They're getting pretty powerful these days, and it's not particularly difficult to drive normal browsing, even at higher resolutions. They can always buy a gpu later if their needs change, and at the rate gpus evolve you never want to buy one until you're actually ready to use it. Also they're totally right about the "space" thing. A lot of people don't realize that resolution translates into real estate, and 1440 is the bomb for browsing and productivity.

Dunno. You'd get to run Windows on the X1 if you so desire. If the screen is important though, I'd suggest you stay away from 1st gen X1, iirc it uses the same trashy panels as the T430 did. 2nd gen X1 is useless because of its keyboard, but 3rd gen may be interesting.

If it's slowing down you can restart it. Non-server Windows is a bit ass at long term stability, but it really shouldn't matter. But if you're running 8 or 10 you probably never really shut it off anyway. You're not doing anything to the hardware

>>59108188
if you want a gaming laptop you need to go with nvidia. Also, you have to keep in mind that cards like the 980ti and 1070 are mostly meant to target 1440p/4k resolutions.
Another thing to note is that generally, any gaming laptop with a X60 card or lower will have decent battery life, while anything with a more powerful gpu will have abysmal battery.
The gtx 1060 is a card meant for playing at 1080p, and for 90% of the time it's fine. The benchmark you posted has cherry picked games, with the exception of Witcher 3.

>>
>>59108404
>worse than the 980ti
No shit. You're comparing a card 3 tiers higher from the immediate previous generation. The desktop 480 wins, but not by a lot, especially on Non-dx12/vulcan. And current gen Nvidia laptops are basically running underclocked desktop cards, so they wipe the floor with anything AMD offers. At laptop resolutions you have no reason to go any higher

two sticks benefit from them running in dual channel mode, four from quad-channel (if your CPU supports it, which it most likely won't)

so, get at least two. the difference between 4 and 2 (both running dual channel) is so small you could maybe measure it, but would never feel it.

Is it possible to damage your hearing by clapping your hands very loudly?
>>
>>59110411
any loud noise can damage your hearing, it doesn't matter where it comes from.
>>
>>59110420
But is it possible to create a loud enough noise by clapping your hand?

I ask because the other day I wanted to startle my cat from across the room who was about to engage in undesired behavior. In order to do this I quickly brought my hands up and clapped them as hard as I could. Unfortunately, the sound was louder than I anticipated and also perhaps closer to my ear than would normally be advised, and I felt some pain as well as a stuffy feeling in the ear for a bit. I began to worry that I may have caused some damage with this action somehow.

Also, the cat didn't give a shit and only briefly glanced my way before continuing with what he was doing.
>>
>>59110438
if it's just temporary that's fine, the ear muscle can contract to prevent damage, that's why you probably felt it being stuffy afterwards.

>Is it safe to eat raw steaks
Sure, I don't think there's any reason to NOT learn how to prepare it blue, however. It's definitely safe(r) if you do it right while the internal taste is the same but with delicious browning on the outside whilst the texture is functionally the same (albeit just slightly less chewy and so easier to eat).

>From the grocery store
Depends, does your grocery have an actual butchery in it? If it's the local wallyworld who get it pre-cut from a meat packing plant I would 100% avoid. If you know a higher-end place that has an actual guy cutting meat with a cleaver and saw then just ask him where the meat comes from and what he thinks. Butchers are generally helpful lots who love meat (no homo) so he should be able to help you. If it's from a local ranch or farm and the kill is that-day/yesterday and he seems like a careful qualified sanitary sort then you'll be fine.

The problem here isn't usually the meat itself, but the shit it picks up from the rest of the body/in the plant from idiots who don't isolate the organs properly. When it's in the animal the animals own immune system keeps most anything funky in the muscles/blood either gone, dead or (rarely) in stasis and when the animal dies that stuff can start growing again (or if the butcher is an idiot he can spill toxins from organs/colon into the meat with bad cutwork). Generally speaking fresh fish/game is safe to eat raw if cut right and cut quickly, parasites/bacteria may very rarely be present in the meat in stasis but if you're healthy your digestive/immune system will kill it dead easily.

I'm absolutely mystified by what's going on with Youtube on my laptop. Sometimes the video just won't play and I get an error. I'll reload the page and after a couple refreshes it will either play normally or the whole tab will just freeze. Sometimes the video will play but there is no sound. This happens in every browser I've tried, with or without extensions. Thing is, Youtube is the only streaming site where this occurs. All other videos work normally so I just don't understand what is special about Youtube in this scenario. Does anyone have even a remote idea what could be causing something like this?

Started OC with DDU and installing the latest driver. AT the start I was able to push up to +200 core clock w/o anything happening weird. it wasn't until 220 where heaven would freeze, black screen, then continue on w/o any artifacts every time i bump up the core clock. and I was able to push up to 285 like this, no artifacts just the freezing thing. And not until 290+ where I had total failure I guess, 2 times (not in a row probably w/in 2 hours) where I had to DDU, reinstall afterburner as comp would freeze on desktop log.
After the 2nd total failure. I started getting artifacts from 80+(w/ time spy, +85 no artifact in heaven I think) and heaven crashes at around +125. Did I RIP my card?

With my HTC 10 using bluetooth to stream to car radio I have to start and select using my phone. On my old IPhone I could use the touch screen on the dash of my car to browse what music I had on my phone. Is there a way to do this with an android phone? Should I ask /spg/ or maybe even /o/?

I used Chrome to open Flash files, (swf) becuase Flash Player breaks anything that isn't a simple loop.

However lately whenever I open a swf in Chrome it doesn't actually play it it just tries to re-save it. What's happening? Is it due to a Chrome update?

How do I view flash files without them being broken?
>>
>>59117182
you could just use the flash player projector, it's a standalone flash player without needing any browser.

Further down the one labeled projector.

I have the Maximus IX Mobo, never done a BIOs update before. Should I update via the internet or USB? Internet option seems pretty tempting.
>>
>>59117253
do it via usb, you don't want your internet connection to drop while you're updating your bios. even if it's unlikely, it's still possible and you'd probably end up with a dead mobo. usb is safer.

Well it can play them without breaking them, which is cool.

Still annoying not being able to see swf in Chrome, though. Hopefully it's not something on my end and it fixes itself eventually.

isn't the entire point of Red Hat that you have access to tech support?

Personally, I'd consider what are the production applications running on that system and whether you could just do a fresh reinstall and get all those applications up and running on a new instance, and then erase this one.

>ATX best bang for your buck
Arguably. It's mainly about flexibility though. If you don't mind a fuck-huge case, you'll be rewarded with more flexibility to cheaply do certain kinds of upgrades (SLI, add-on pci cards, more drives, maybe cheaper CPU cooler that is just as effective, etc.).
>>
>>59107233
>Is there a way to test what my apartment complex is capable of?
Best way would probably be to make friends with company's technician. Start by calling their tech support. Don't upgrade your modem unless they tell you that has a good chance of fixing it.
>>
>>59107259
Yes that's fine and no one should be using 1080p for a PC today. Make sure the motherboard has a matching output to the monitor's input, or be prepared to spend $ on an adapter.
>>
>>59107344
Technically, unless you're building the PC for someone else, you're supposed to buy the retail (not OEM) version. If you don't care about the license you might as well just pirate it.
