It had some weird license until Novell put it on GPL. Next Point seems to be that it's to special. There have been some projects but it looks like none of them survived.

That's sad, because it's by far the best admin gui that's available on Linux. Even Windows Admins can set up everything in a minute.

You should. They had some problems a while ago. This is why it isn't so common anymore. But now the rolling release branch Tumbleweed runs flawless and yast is like MMC on steroids.

OpenSusy has some pretty cool graphical tools that other distros dont have but from my experiences they dont work very well.
