That is not shipping with the 1700x and 1800x where ever I look.
>>
>>59098080
>irreplaceable fan

They sell replacement fans for £2.99 on their website.

https://www.arctic.ac/uk_en/spare-fan-freezer-7-pro-rev-2-freezer-7-pro-freezer-64-pro.html

The mounting hardware is only plastic for Intel setups too. The AMD one uses metal clips. I used to have an earlier model of it on my Phenom II system. It served me well for five years before I upgraded the whole system, even on an overclocked, overvolted little 125W housefire.

>>59098082
>>59098115
The Wraith Max is only for system builders, so enjoy buying a prebuilt to get your hands on one.
>>
>>59098137
Im gonna stick this on my 1700x when it arrives.
>>
>>59098047
For the 20 bucks it costs? Doubt it. Have one slapped on my 3570K and I can reach stable 4.2GHz effortless
>>
>>59098137
Ok, the fan is cheap but the plastic mount stuff for Intel still kills it for me, I'm not trusting any tower cooler without at least a backplate.
>>
>>59098137
>The Wraith Max is only for system builders.
Got a source for that, because I'm 100% sure it's wrong and made up.
>>
>>59098137
OEM Windows is only for system builders, it ends up on Amazon anyways
>>
>>59098047
>already supports am4
so does a hundred other coolers
>>
>>59098313
Many need new mounting kits.
>>
>>59098331
oh noes.
>>
>not h100 variant
>>
>>59098310
Granted OEM Windows is somewhat different than retail. Its fixed to the motherboard along with Microsoft's empty threat to deactivate Windows on people's PC that use the OEM key for themselves.
>>
>>59098241
It's really not a very big tower. A lot smaller than the NH-U14S that I replaced it with. Still, it was a good and quiet cooler. I never even replaced the pre-applied thermal paste on it in those five years, which influenced me to buy a tube of MX-4 for my new cooler (which also works great).

>>59098273
Sure, pic related, friend. The top SKU for the 1700X and the 1800X, which comes without the Wraith, is the retail SKU and the one which is being sold. The owner of OcUK, the biggest UK parts retailer, also confirmed that there's only one version of those chips, which comes without a cooler.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/processors/amd/amd-socket-am4

You'll note that their listings very clearly state that no cooler is included. Whilst the 1700 does come with a cooler, but a cheaper, smaller one. Maybe AMD will change their minds in the future, but on launch day you won't be able to get a Wraith Max.

>>59098310
Well, good luck with that! I think you're going to be disappointed though.

The whole kit is light enough that it doesn't feel like it's going to yank itself out. My current one is in an horizontal build but I had another one in my previous E8400 in a regular tower for years without any kind of problem. I tried AIO kits and other similarly priced tower coolers but I always come back to this particular model because it's not a fucking bitch to install/remove and the price/performance ratio is awesome.

Obviously pic related. Got mine for $35. The sink is narrower but wider than a 212 Evo and even with a full sized 25mm thick fan, you can access all 4 ram slots on pretty much any motherboard. Fan is a 140mm fan with 120mm mounting holes. Any 120mm can be used though.

Most companies are offering free AM4 brackets. Noctua's service is based though. I emailed them for mine yesterday and they got back to me with a hand-written email saying it'd be sent that day literally twenty minutes after I filled in the web form.

Coolers like the one in the OP which connect via AMD's standard mounting clips don't need anything new though. They're compatible by default, since whilst the width of the screw holes on the board has changed, the relative position of the stock plastic mounting bracket hasn't.

>>
>>59098047
in 09, I regret not getting this over a zalman 9700 (the one with a fan controller that wasn't pwm) because the zalman tarnished heavily over time and was loud as fuck.
>>
>>59104498
You know I've always wondered why it seems like no computer cooling designs seem to make use of ducts these days. I know for a fact removing the shroud from the radator of cars with fans mounted to the water pump can lead to overheating in traffic. High CFM means dick all when the air isn't being directed anywhere.
>>
>>59104638
God yes, i have 2 of them and bought them when they were ridiculously cheap. One of them ended up on my 8c/16t Xeon, and the other ended up on my phenom II. Kinda crap fan though and the fan mounting mechanism is a pain in the ass. Other than that for $20 it was awesome.

>>59104786
I know many high end servers and workstations do use ducting, but for the servers its usually when the CPUs are equipped with "passive" coolers.
>>

I realize this is a total fucking bait thread but ill post my cooler and why i chose it anyways...

Cryorig c7.
-20 bucks...cheap.
-absolutely silent...I doubt any of your coolers will ever get this fucking quiet.
-AMD and jewtel compatable
-low profile and will fit in even a ITX case easily
-still does better than any stock cooler allowing for some overclocking headroom (not bad for something this small)
-Actually gets airflow to my motherboard and cools my shitty msi VRM
-looks good...black and white color scheme goes wonderfully with my cheap ass MSI motherboard

No doubt you guys will shit on my cooler for not being an oversized sideways turbine...but its absolutely perfect for my usage and allows me to overclock to my shitty motherboard to what is sadly its maximum potential, while fitting in any size case and not looking like absolute ass.

so yeah best cooler...for me anyway.

So just resign yourselves to bending over and spreading your buttcheecks for both the government and mohammed.

Scythe Fuma - £51.09

Cheapest prices for each on PCPP. I think I'd rather pay less, have much better support if something goes wrong and not have two giant towers doing the job of one. Plus a six year warranty instead of a two year one.

B is best because it matches the most likely cooling setup you're going to have in your case. 2 intake fans, cpu cooler in B position, and 1 (or optionally 2) exhaust fans give all the airflow you'll need really.

Yeah I agree

Put the fan on the bottom, so it blows upwards. More efficient that way since heat moves up.
>>
>>59111904
You call a computer youre able to make crash in 2 min 99% stable? Holy mother of boards.
>>
>>59112312
No, just some fucked up phimosis
>>
>>59111614
If you have a case fan only on the back, then b.
If you have a case fan also on the top, then c.

Heat rises, so blowing it out upwards is the most efficient choice.
>>
>>59098047
That's a pretty fucking ugly cooler bro.
>>
>>59111675
> hot air moves up

in a passive environment. Fans negate this completely. You could literally have the intakes on top and exhaust from the bottom the case if you wanted.
>>
>>59111547
It would require the VRMs to be situated in the right location, have heatsinks, and have the heatsinks have fins in the right orientation to work best. I see the logic, but I too think it's a gimmick with a fan that small.

Stay mad mainland Euros

>>59112352

Still not an excuse to mutilate yourself willingly.
>>
>>59112385

The best thing is just to have a case with side fans.
>>
>>59112403
The case I'm looking at vents up. It has a case fan on the bottom instead. I made have to replace the rubber feet with taller ones.
>>
>>59112432

That`s mainly good for cooling the GPU
>>
>>59112456
does it actually help? I have R5 now, thinking if I should set fan on bottom vent or not, would be a hassle due to all power cables
I will if it will lower temps significantly 3-5C
>>
>>59112474

Dunno, my case doesn`t have a bottom fan mount.

What's the best slim mITX cooler? I want to get a Silverston FTZ01 and max cooler height is ~80mm.

Stupid cucks with your overclocking and AMD products

An i5 with stock cooler will blow 95% of all your shit out of the water with its pos cooler. Shut up about your aftermarket coolers unless you've got a 7700k

You poorfags disgust me. It's like a 16 year old bragging about what power he can squeeze out of a 1995 MR2 when a 25,000 mustang will crush it on all levels bone stock.

I could go on amazon and spend 350$ on a 7th Gen i5 workstation from fucking HP that'll outperform your cuckmachines

What you pay for is comparable performance at the lowest possible noise level.

Keep in mind most tests only account for raw dB level, and not sound pitch. One could have a lower overall noise level but be at a more annoying high frequency pitch that would make it less appealing than one with a lower pitch at a higher level.

Also know our ears don't respond to all sounds in a linear fashion. They're most sensitive to middle frequencies and taper exponentially above and below a certain range. Fin shape, size, weight and count all affect this in fans, and fin and duct design on the hestsink can play a small role as well.
>>
Anything other than a NH-D9L just shows you're a child who can't afford to buy the performance they want.

Are there any coolers that make use of venturies or "air multiplication?"

Will motherboard manufacturers provide some sort of universal am3 to am4 adapter or do I have to rely on heatsink manufacturers for that?

I have an FX-8370 on a Gigabyte 970 chipset mobo that doesn't have the power delivery to OC it past 4.4GHz, I still put a Kraken X61 in there, the CPU never gets above 30°C, I don't a fuck.

Yes, because you're an autistic sperglord that didn't read beyond the first part. I know how I use it and nearly 100% of the time I never go 100% usage on 8 threads so for ALL intends and purposes and ONLY if I specifically want otherwise, it can crash.
WHEN and if I actually want to run it on a 100% usage manner I can adjust everything right on the spot or even on the BIOS if it goes long term.
>>
>>59098047
I tried that cooler on my server and it ran hotter than the cut down 212+ I was using previously. The plastic mounting brackets are garbage. Good fan though.

Sure the thing really goes up to 150W TDP?

Pure Rock has 4 heatpipes, weighs 140g more and seems taller. Still it's only listed as 130W TDP.

*psssst* That OEM version is getting sold individually to boutique system builders. That means you can also buy it, but without the same retail warranty.
sauce - the computer shop down the block where I live told me they're able to buy individual Ryzen 7 1700X with the cooler, not as a pack.

I 3d printed a fan shroud for a 360mm radiator. It's legit - for a 5mm thick shroud the CPU temperatures lowered by about 7 degrees at best and 5 degrees at worst. What it does is it causes the air that usually comes out of the edge of the fan at an angle to be redirected back towards the center, thus provided higher air flow in the area usually blocked by the fan's motor. Thicker shrouds offer better performance up to about 13mm thick, where you get no real net benefit and actually lose pressure beyond that.

I'm using the stock cooler that came with my fx-6300 and I gotta say its the cheapest piece of shit I've ever seen. I'm surprised AMD even included it, its such low quality. Its so loud too, and frequently goes full throttle even through the cpu temps are idle. I don't know how to fix the full throttle thing but I would like to get a less obnoxious fan. I've never had problems keeping the cpu cool, it goes to about 80c while gaming with the stock cooler.
