Guys how do we save the K712/K7XX?
Those peaks at 2khz, 7khz, around 13khz (not shown in measurments), those bloated low mids, that huge dip at 3khz - what is this?

In the previous thread I mentioned how expensive genuine replacement earpads for HD600 are... well, I just bought $8 paid from china. Well, I just spent 30 min going through every ebay listing for earpads and noticed that they're all pretty much the same. Same pics, same descriptions... just the prices are different. I think they're all buying from the same factory/manufacturer in china. Anyway, I bought the cheapest pair.

Has anyone bough these chink replacement earpads? How did they work out?

>I think they're all buying from the same factory/manufacturer in china

Precisely what they're doing.

>Has anyone bough these chink replacement earpads? How did they work out?

Felt kinda scratchy. Not sure if they're real velour.
>>
>>59096954
They're pretty good bassy headphones. Really need to change the earpads though.
>>
>>59096972
>Felt kinda scratchy. Not sure if they're real velour.
Velour is synthetic. There is no such thing as "real velour". I did some research. The might feel different because synthetic material is different or they're not worn in enough.

Also, before buying, I took apart my HD600 and looked at the earpads closely and these chink ones look exactly the same from the back.... same plastic cup, same synthetic backing (that soft polyethylene shopping-bag texture that connects plastic and velour). Either the same factory in china is making genuine Senns pads or chinks have reverse engineered them to a really high degree. Or all these pics are lying and chink pads look nothing like they do in pictures (I don't think that's the case because buyers would say something).

Anyway, I'll report on how they feel in a month when they arrive (I presume that's how long it will take). I fucking refuse to pay >$40 for fucking earpads. I change them 2x a year and don't wanna spend all this money on fucking sponge.

Are there any memory foam earpads for HD600/650? Anyone know?

Mostly hygiene. I wear them 8hr+ every day. I also like the feel of new earpads and don't like pancaked ones. I tried washing them but that only cleans them and they never recover the shape.

>You can force a lot of things on, none that are really designed that way.
well, if they cut the memory foam the same way they cut regular foam, it would work. I'd pay $50 for memory foam ones because those would last forever and I'd be OK with just washing them.

Just ordered DT990 as a second headphones to have some fun because my HD650 are kinda boring. Did I fucked up?
>>
>>59097653
Sure if you don't post any more pseudoscience here.
>>
What do you think about superlux HD 681?
>>
>>59097673
They're decent. They sound sort of like an open DT770-80. Some say they have harsh treble but it doesn't seem too bad to me.
>>
So somebody here said that the Superlux HD668B were really nice budget headphones. I had gone from a pair of HD201s to slightly uncomfortable 202s (over ear to slightly on ear), and had decided to try something new.

Holy fucking Jesus these things give blowjobs left and right for free. They're so fucking comfortable, the audio quality is fantastic, and the detachable cables make them so they're really portable, if that's your thing. Going from a closed to a semi-open is jarring, though, as I'm noticing that in some songs I'm not hearing some things as clearly, but then picking up on things I hadn't heard before, so it evens out.

Overall, these are a fantastic purchase. I'm considering picking up the alternate pads sometime in the future, but honestly, the amount of comfort these things offer regardless of pads makes me consider skipping them all together. If these things can comfortably fit around my fat head with no squeezing the very first time I put them on, I doubt I can find anything as comfy again.

TL:DR: Amazing, ty

not wanting to be a fucking slob like you is not autism. earpads are in a constant contact with skin and they accumulate dead skin cells and breed bacteria. If you're not at least washing them every few months, you're a baka.

You aren't supposed to wash the pads. That usually makes them degrade faster.
Lint rollers and a damp cloth, possibly with some detergent, are the way to go.

No it doesn't. Water doesn't do shit to that sponge. What degrades them is mechanical agitation so don't put them in a washer and wash them in a bowl with some detergent and gently massage them.

>Lint rollers and a damp cloth, possibly with some detergent, are the way to go.
That won't get rid of sweat/dead skin cells.

>>59097858
The foam is not necessarily resistant to detergents used.
Oils bond very well to the adhesive, and loose surface matter are broadly picked by a roller.
In any case, deeper oils are also what you are supposed to use a damp cloth for.
>>
>>59097858
>>59097955
I can't comment on the Sennheiser pads but I've gently washed Beyer pads with detergent and it wrecked the foam inside.

Alright, /hpg/. Switch is out in 1 week, and Breath of the Wild will have my attention during all my free time until I beat it. So I'm looking for a pair of portable headphones to go with it.

I have a pair of 558s at home. Obviously not very travel-friendly, but I'm in love with how they sound. If I could get something that sounds similar, that would be great. Budget would be $70 or ideally less (Trump Dollars) A few options I've been looking at are the Koss Porta Pro/Sporta Pro/KSC75 and Sennheiser PX100. Anyone here have experience with those, and any other recommendations? Naturally a good pair of earbuds would be an option here as well.

owned ER-4PT for some time and just recently purchased HD600's with an Aune X1S. The imaging and infinite increase in soundstage are downright amazing, but the HD600's vocals sound flat compared to ER-4's.
Which of the two is meant to be more neutral when it comes to vocals and mids?

How does the K712 sounds compared to the K240? Is it a decent upgrade?
>>
>>59103105
HD 598s for ~$150. If not, get an HD 558 or SHP9500S.
>>
>>59103133
Never heard the k240 before but the k712 is my third favorite headphones before the 650, then the 600.

The detail and soundstage are great and the bass is there. It's just that the bass is pretty sloppy to put it simply. They're fantastic overall though and the design is incredible imo.
>>
>>59103105
>$150
that's such a shitty price point. I see a lot of people post $100-150 for a budget but all the good shit starts >$180 and shit between $100-150 is simply not worth the money. Sub $100 and >$180 price ranges are a lot better.

>>
>>59103163
>before the 650, then the 600
600 is better in every which way than 650. v-shaped sound is fucking awful and you can never boost the mids without distortion while you can almost always boost the bass/highs without much distortion.
>>
>>59103214
That's like, your opinion, anon.
>>
>>59103163
K240 is actually quite good for the price but the K712 is significantly better in every way except for perhaps isolation. The headband on the 712 may be less comfortable over long durations. The K712 is basically the K/Q/70x with better bass.
>>
>>59103295
no, that's what measurements show. higher model numbers and higher price don't mean better sound quality. unless you're really into v-shaped sound and if you don't care about vocals and you don't want natural sound, then 650 are better.
>>

I didn't know /g/ does these threads but I wanted to pass on some information about a great pair of earbuds I've had for the past few years

Sony MDR-XB50AP

They are extra bass earbuds and not only do they have really good bass but they also have pretty great noise isolation. They also have the remote control thing on them so you can use them as a microphone on a call or for play/pause/skip features

I got them for around $8 on ebay a few years back and they have been awesome.

Please help. Looking for IEM. Medium or higher isolation and neutral sound if possible. Around 50 quid.

I had sure SE215.

They sucked and died after 2 years. Driver, not cable.

I had Magic PL50. They were awesome but really flimsy and died within a year (cable break). Cable as you know is not replaceable on them.

I have MEE M6 and they are OK although really bass heavy but the cable is already dying. Should I buy a replacement cable or is there another pair you'd recommend.

Thank you.

In case you're wondering why my headphones are dying so quickly - they need to suffer through hiking, climbing, cycling and British shitty weather.

>Just ordered Sennheiser HD598s

Great. I hope you enjoy them anywhere as much as I did the past two years.

Just a little aftermarket advice:
* Don't follow stretch guides and snap your set, just wear them normally for a few days and they'll get very comfortable.
* Allow a week to get used to the neutral (actually ever so slightly bright) sound signature.
* Don't EQ no matter how tempting, especially so in the first weeks, or you'll never get used to the neutral signature (magic moment where it start to sound trully awesome).

And, keep in mind that while they sound good as-is with most sources, that's still at most 70% of what they can offer (to be clear I'm talking about reproduction of original sound. Not volume.). Their true power is unleashed by pairing them with an amp. I suggest the schiit fulla2, as that's the absolute best of the <$100 options, and definitely worth the $25 or so over that chink "fiio e10k" thing.

Not really worth listing together with the HD600.

Okay and should I buy the FiiO E10K with it?
>>

Are you on crack?
>>
>>59107524
I think you will probably want something more powerful than the E10K. The Fiio K5 would be better.
>>
>>59107749
Scratch that as you will need the player to dock for DAC functionality.

You may want to get something like a modi/magni or odac.
>>
>>59106938
You can "schill" those as much as you like. It doesn't change the fact that they most likely are not worth the price.

>claiming a $27 gaming headset sounds as good as a good headphone that cost 300 dollars

Insanity. Also you can take one look at them and tell they are not durable. The leds look laughable.

Good quality gaming mics can be had for 3 dollars.

>good cord length and durability
It's braided so i'll probably give you this one.

It does have a USB cord but i'm not following how that makes the headphone sound or function any better.

I doubt they sound extremely awful I just doubt they sound nearly as good as something similar priced like a Superlux product.

>>59107552
Well the Sony Ma900 is already wonderful for gaming as it has a wide soundstage. AKG K712 is more of a sidegrade. It also has a wide soundstage.

>>59107561
Just like these are side grades. Except these don't have the soundstage of the Ma900 and K712. These however could be better for music depending on your preferences.

Not anon, but it is a common known fact that headphones from gaming companies offer better price-to-performance than headphones from "audiophile" companies.

Take pic related, for example. $300, yet it provides better sound than 90% of what you throw at it.
>>
>>59107797
My room mate and I have burnt through a headset for every hair on your sack. I've tried out more floor models in hardware retailers than most actual audiophiles.

They're on my head right now. I'd have paid $150 for this headset and I'm extremely cheap.

Honestly. I feel like I've just discovered that we're not in a geocentric universe and no one cares. I WILL be buying 4 or 5 of these headsets when I get another job as backups.

The cheaper of the 2. To fix a headphone usually they have to fuck something up. Hence why people claim the HD800S isn't quite as detailed and doesn't have quite the sound-stage as the HD800.

The 400 dollar price difference isn't worth it.

I'd have you know this specific set of headphones have been praised by both the Reddit and Head-Fi community. Calling it a "flagship killer" while also comparing them to much more expensive headphone such as the HD 800S' and LD-Xs. Anyone who says otherwise is a massive faggot hell bent on defying the audiophile community. There's a reason why Razer no longer sell these headphones; doing otherwise will literally destroy the audiophile market. Good thing their gaming headsets are still competitive to more expensive headphones such as the HD 600s and K712s. Honestly, I hope you all kill yourselves for being so fucking dense. Jesus Christ, I need to take a nap.

Even this Sennheiser shill agrees with me.

>Despite only being to afford to use the internal DAC found in our motherboards, it still competed against more more expensive headphones

Kek. How can "audiophile" headphones even compete?

I've got $250 US to spend.

I'm debating between using it to buy a fulla 2 and either 598's or the DT770 80 ohms.

Or,

Just picking up X2's.

I like neutral and v shaped depending what I'm listening to.

What should I do, anon?

Sure, except that happens to be enough for most headphones out there, and certainly more than what a fiio e10k can do (only 200 mW at 32 Ω).

Compare specs (used the hd600 + amp pages as the interface fucking sucks, but look at just the amps)

Fulla 2 with 598's are prob the best value and the Fulla 2 will drive them easier than the 770-80. It will also be the more neutral sound setup.
>>
>>59108265
> if it sounds loud enough you don't need an amp.
>>59107712

==On DAC+AMP devices==

The DAC: Converts digital to analog. Your computer does this already if it has an analog output. So does your phone. Generally, this is a well understood problem that's more than solved by now, and cheaply so. Some people prefer to do it externally because it ensures that the result is the same regardless of the source.

Generally, your computer will have a DAC chip that is definitely good enough, but many motherboards will fuck up on the surrounding electronics, and you might hear noise as you, say, move a window around in the screen. A decent external DAC is a portable way to solve this. An internal sound card will solve this too. A bad (classic chink) USB DAC will actually make things worse, as USB power is low quality and chink seldom cheapen on filtering it to an usable state. A good one will do its job and that's it, you'll typically forget it's there.

The AMP: Provides power as necessary, a little gain (a few more dB top volume, unnecessary unless music mastered at crazy low volume, or you're deaf), and a convenient knob to decrease the gain. Typically, your headphones receive audio as an analog signal (AC). Voltage represents the amplitude of the wave. Your cans will output more or less volume at a given voltage (so called "sensitivity") and pull more or less current (amperes) to actually move the driver (active component that makes the sound). Some headphones are more efficient than others, unrelated to sound quality.

Generally, your source can provide more than enough volume, so the added volume (the "gain") will likely be superfluous. A knob is nice. You'll need an amp only if your cans pull more current than the source's builtin amp provide, which results on distortion (muffling).

this seems a good rec, its a gentle v shape right? thanks a lot lad
>>
>>59108222
Buy the x2's. The bulk of the budget should go into the headphones, then you can buy an amp and dac later down the line.
>>
>>59108222
> fulla 2
Best <$100 amp+dac in the market, good pick.

> either 598's or the DT770 80 ohms
DT770 are fun bass canons but that's about it. Their HD598 competitor is the DT880, and it doesn't do well on reviews that compare the two. Just go with the HD598, at $150 I will claim it's the best value in the market. They're comfortable AF too.

> Just picking up X2's.

>its a gentle v shape right
Yes. It also has a bit of a peak around 10k which gives it a sense of air and greater detail than its competitors (K701/2 HD600 etc). But I wouldn't really call it harsh. And it has more detailed bass and better extension in either direction.

The PRO version also sounds slightly different from the Premium, clamps a little bit harder, and has a coiled cable instead of straight.
>>
What are some good earbuds for 200 or under?
>>
>>59108222
If you're considering the X2, you might want to look into the as-neutral-as-it-gets HD600, as they're the king at that price segment, and really well loved (for many, the best headphones available period).

Just keep in mind you'll need an amp for these yes or yes.

>>
>>59108621
The prices of these fluctuate all the time. The 880s and 990s have traditionally been around the price of the HD600s and K701/2 and competed with those headphones.
>>
>>59108457
Aren't the X2 pretty v shaped?
I thought they competed with the 600's in price only.
>>
>>59108658
Yeah, that's how I remember it.

>>59108639
Bass maybe (the HD598 are more neutral... which I think is best (fairness to source) but YMMV). Detail not so much (reviews I've seen that compare both do all agree HD598 has better imaging).
>>
>>59108704
Yeah, they are. For the V-shape vulnerable riffraff, who don't know what they're missing just because they buy headphones that sound good in the shop.
>>
>>59108746
The 880s have better detail and bass but the 598s have better soundstage due to the angled drivers. 598s also have better soundstage than the HD600/650.
>>

They're more of a dark headphone than v shape, it mainly has a lot of emphasis in the midbass with a peak in the 9k range or so.
