>The basic concept of MagSafe is copied from the magnetic power connectors that are part of many deep fryers and Japanese countertop cooking appliances since the early 2000s in order to avoid spilling their dangerously hot contents.[2][3][4] Apple was granted US Patent No. 7311526 on MagSafe ("Magnetic connector for electronic device", issued in 2007) as MagSafe was deemed to be a sufficient improvement due to the connector being symmetrical and reversible, and the fact that magnets within a connector are arranged in opposing polarities for improved coupling strength.

Do you know what the point of a crimp is? It's to make sure there's full, constrained contact on wires that might be moving because if you lose surface contact resistance goes up. It's why USBs are constrained by pressure from the socket and it's why basically every plug has a ring or springs to constrain the connector.

A connector that pops off because you brush it from the top or bottom is fucking retarded. This is electricity, it can ruin your day a million ways.

Removable is a step up from non removable

If you can remove you have more control over your proprietary parts

If the batteries can be removed that means it's actually off

If the baseband can be removed you can trust the device more, especially if you have free parts already installed

You can remove batteries from all smartphones, with some effort. Need more power? Plug-in a universal powerbank with any capacity you wuld wish isntead of turinin off your phone, dinding a replaceable proprietary batery, turning your phone again and waiting it to boot for 15 seconds i case of emergency. Batteies are enclosed inside due to normies always breaking back covers, dropping devices and bringing them to bath while not making devices look like land rover phones.

Multiple removable components would need some kind of future-proof high-speed bus built inside phone's base structural skeleton, otherwise it would end up one-season 'hip' proprietary garb like LG G5.

Removable baseband processor ruins the whole reasoning of having a "smartPHONE", maybe a feature like turning off power to the chip like they did in IBM Simon would be good.
>>
>>59118024
>You can remove batteries from all smartphones, with some effort
No shit. I'm talking about removing the battery to ensure privacy not whether it's virtually possible There is no other way to trust proprietary software
>turning off power to the baseband
this is pointless since you're not in control of the software running the baseband switch. The only way to guarantee non networking on a proprietary blackbox is removing the feature physically. In software you have no control over it.

This is an Apple Newton, I believe they were introduced in 1993? This is the last model, the Newton 2000.

It was a nice machine, ran for a long time on ordinary AA batteries, had wireless email (!) capability when introduced, and was useful for the internet of the time for me, I used mine as a very portable little terminal for dialing in to my University and using the shell.

It was also built like a tank.

The RD1 was never that common or popular, and Olympus can't receive credit for mirrorless, since they just piggy backed with cheaper consumer alternatives to Panasonic's new format, after Olympus failed badly in their "all digital" SLR game.

Technically, the RD1 was the first mirrorless camera, but the g1/gh1 were the success of micro four thirds, and the beginning of modern mirrorless.

It would also be nice to have a larger screen with bezels that aren't comically huge, but whatever.

Too bad they didn't make a Chromebook version. Chrome OS would probably be the best OS to put on that thing due to its flexibility.
>>
>>59125565
but was it /really/ a good idea, we didn't have real keys on our keyboards because we were primitive savages or unenlightened philistines, it's just reality that keyboards with no real buttons are fucking shit, just ask anyone with the misfortune of owning a home computer with a non-tactile membrane keyboard in the '70s and '80s how much they really (didn't) like it.
>>
>>59125618
In my opinion, yes. It was a good idea. The lack of a physical keyboard allows the user to use it as a tablet in a way that feels less awkward because (a) there are no physical keys on the back of the tablet and (b) it allows for a thinner device. It also allows you to draw/write on a surface that isn't the screen, which is way more useful than it sounds. Not to mention the fact that a keyless keyboard is ridiculously easy to clean.

It's just a massive shame they gave it such shitty specs. It could've been something nice.

because it's a gimmick that is impractical for anything except making a stew or something.

OK the worst thing is the limited amount of pans you can use. They need to be iron ofc, and with that they also need to be thick enough and perfectly round because otherwise enjoy waiting 5 minutes for it to get hot.

Then when you finally have 1 or 2 pans that you can use, make sure to not even slightly touch it when it's in the field because otherwise it will just turn the field on/off/on/off and make weird clicking noises. You like stir frying? too bad. pancakes? too bad. Put down that pan anon.

And ofc they need to be flat bottom. Now this is not that important but my wife is chinese and she likes the concave wok pan, which you cannot use because it needs to be flat.
