Hello /g/ I need some advice
I have the following system that I put together in 2011
i7 2600k @4.4GHz
Evo 212 cooler master
Z77 Sabertooth MOBO
EVGA GTX 1070 8gb SC
126gb SSD by MtCrucial (os only)
2TB Hitachi HDD @7200rpm
Ares 16GB 1600Mhz RAM
Corsair AX850 PSU gold+
I was wondering what would be something I can upgrade to get some performance boost.
I was thinking that the 2600k could be Upped to a 3770k but would it even make a noticeable difference? would buying used CPU like that even be worth it?
Thanks senpai.

you'd be better off investing into multicore cpus as they will start to shine in the coming years
buying a 3770k wont really do much
Ryzen

i have lga1155, i cant change my mobo.
im only changing to a new mobo when I have 1000$ or more to invest in upgrades
>>59089210
would buying a new mobo and a 6700k be worth it?
or wait even longer for newer tech? I just dont see a huge performance upgrade since sandy bridge
>>59089487
if you wanna change cpu you might as well change mobo
you can always get a ddr3 one if you dont want to get new ram
>>59089506
there is no reason to get a 6700k when the 7700k exists
the 7700k can overclock better and is a few cents more
>>59089516
i dont mind spending money, I just dont want to spend 1000$ to end up getting only like 10% performance improvement.
either way im thankful for your help, im a newbie when it comes to this stuff

good to know!
>>59089487
trust me my dude, as lga1155 gets older day by day its going to get harder and more expensive to get an old mobo. its already expensive as balls to get a used lga1155 mobo in the shitty chipsets. And let me tell you that your mobo IS going to die in the next few years and you ARE going to have to spend $150 on a crappy mobo just to keep using your crappy CPU. Just upgrade, ryzen, cookiebridge or whatever its called, just dont make the same mistakes I have and upgrade your shit my dude.

its not really worth it if youre only gaming, but sooner or later games will take more advantage of a multicore cpu, due to dx12. but until you actually start to see performance losses due to cpu bottlenecking, you dont really need anything new just yet
>>59089623
if my stuff ends up failing im just going to upgrade stead of replacing
Have almost the same pc except 3770k/980ti and there's nothing to upgrade anymore except aging storage for me. Get a nice monitor, headphones, mouse, keyboard or whatever.
Also you will need different board for 3770k
>>59089784
no, the 3770k is lga1155
the z77 is also lga1155
>>59089810
Yea my bad, got confused, either way it's worthless update

thanks for the help!
>>59089057
save ur dosh for a brand new PC (although the 2600k is still breddy solid)
get a 1700X

Not much you can if you are keeping the mobo. Maybe add a ~500GB SSD and put all your programs on there.
higher capacity ssd if you're unwilling to upgrade your motherboard for a new cpu/ram/m.2 capability/etc
