Now if only the same could be said about the 1700 I would be pre ordering it instead of the 7700k since it's cheaper than the 1700x
>>

IPC is the same
>>
>>59083948

The 1700 will be hard pressed to overclock passed 4Ghz I think. 65w TDP and all.
>>
>>59083974
No, it's not.
And the 1700 won't clock anywhere close to the 1700x
>>
>>59083982
exactly, the 1700 is a cpu that just doesn't make sense
it won't clock anywhere near their $50 extra X version so you will be stuck with mediocre clock speeds and gaming performance on par with the 7600k
>>
if it's better than intel at single thread, I'll buy it, was thinking about a 7700k, but if I can get twice more cores and threads, and they're not shit

they say it has 8 cores and 16 threads but on pcpartpicker it says that it doesn't have hyperthreading. does AMD have a different name for their equivalent?

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as x64, is in fact, amd64, or as I've recently taken to calling it, x86 plus AMD. amd64 is not an architecture unto itself, but rather another example of a fully functioning x86 system made useful by the AMD 64-bit extensions, instructions and vital architecture comprising a fully new architecture as defined by the IEEE.
Many computer users run a modified version of the amd64 system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of amd64 which is widely used today is often called x64, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the amd64 system, developed by the AMD Company.
There really is an amd64, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Intel™ is the CPU: the piece in the system that allocates the machine's power to the apps that you run. The CPU is an essential part of an operating computer, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete 64-bit AMD architecture. Intel is normally used in combination with the amd64 instruction set: the whole system is basically AMD with x86 added for retrocomputing, or amd64/Intel. All the so-called Intel CPUs are really CPUs from AMD!

>We just tested a 1700, it hit 4.0GHz stable in everything, but ONLY in the Crosshair mainboard, the lower-end boards it was hovering around 3.80GHz as the VRM’s were cooking with extra voltage. It however was maxing around 4050MHz, so I’d say 1700 can do 3.9-4.1GHz, of course the 1800X will probably do 4.1-4.3 as no doubt better binned, but if your clocking the motherboard has a big impact on the overclock and so far Asus Crosshair and Asrock Taichi seem the best two.

I figured they knew about amd because it's no secret you need to keep up development. Is it a case of resting on their laurels and getting cocky that amd would only have incremental improvements? Did amd engineers pull an upset come-from-behind victory?

AMD actually uses a much more advanced version of SMT than Intel, which is why, despite being around 15% slower per core, Ryzen has better multi-core performance.

What a joke, the 8350 is a terrible chip and there's no way in hell playing a youtube video affects them whatsoever. Chances are you have completely different GPUs or something else. Honestly the 8350 is bottom of the barrel, beaten by even the i3 in most cases.

by making things smaller and lower latency and more efficient, we lose the ability to clock it "higher" than previous things.. you get X amount of transistors more and lose out on your ability to clock it higher
let's say you go from 1 billion transistors at 4ghz to 2billion transistors at 3.5ghz you're still going to see way better performance even if lower clocks
then the next cycle of chips will push those 2 billion up to the 4ghz once again
and then repeat.. more transistors lower clock etc

very basic explanation of what happens over many years

Fucking comcast outage as I was typing, tethering from my phone is a bitch.

I'm probably gonna wait a bit and see how the overclocks from the 1700x and 1800x differs.

My 8350 isn't horrible right now, and if the overclocking it only a difference of like 100-200mhz than the 1700x is where I'll probably go, and my noctua d14 will probably serve me well going to something like that.

thanks for your response though, interesting to know what you know about your people in western europe

also, in Germany you can get computer chips cheaper than the surrounding areas since they ship in volume there (80 million people after all), you will need to order it online though, store bought is bound to be more expensive,at least thats how it is in NL

best thing to do, make sure your German webstore has pickup service, then order your cpu/mobo and go to their warehouse to pick it up, another option is to send it to the nearest post office(in NL we have PostNL pickup service, just sends it to the nearest postoffice for you to pick it up,Germoney ought to have the same)

Hafia boys got lazy.

Intel is suffering from their stupidity at the end of the netburst era, they laid off all the Texas and Arizona CPU R&D not long after they shitcanned Tejas/Jayhawk - they kept them on to make Cedar Mill (not the original Cedarmill which would have followed Tejas) and Smithfield (Presler wasn't them) but after that they were toast.

The Hafia boys did Banias/Dothan during the netburst era and they won big with the cancellation of Tejas, they became the heads of cpu R&D and Yonah/Merom/Conroe we're their first orders but they were just Dothan + netburst extras, Nehalem was their first real r&d project.

Since there is no longer any internal competition or was their external threat(competition), they just kept slightly bumping things - they do have big things in the works, but they're still a good 8 years out. Intel has become Microsoft in the 2000/XP days - they wanted to release a new OS every 2 years, but kept piling on new features and not finishing othes - so much so that that Blackcomb eventually ended up as Vista, was 5 years late and was fucking garbage.

Intel corporate needs to get some new X86 cpu r&d teams going and get the internal competition happening again.

I have been to every European country other than Scandavia minus Denmark, Germany and U.K. I know what people think of Turks anon, I don't need to be an einstein to know/guess that Turks are seen at best Balkan and at worst Middle East tier people who are bound to be always seen as second class citizens. Being a culturally, educationally, politcally inferior society effects peoples view on nations, no matter what bleeding heart lefties will preach to themselves and to others.

Hell, I am an architect that owns a construction company since the day I finished my school. I had leftie university students from Western Europe who are studying DESIGN, not even architecture persume me to be ''less knowledable'' about my own field than them. Although avarage Turkish graduate is probably less knowlegable than their European counterparts unless they are in top 15-25 percentile in their field, I can't argue against that much.

Anyway, I can go on about Turkey for eternity. Sorry for ranting on you. Take care and thanks for the advice anon.

BUT!

There is literally no way that Intel with decades of chip building experience would lag behind GloFlo in technological department. These companies need atleast a decade of experience in the field for financial, human resources and production experience reasons to actually be ON PAR with Intel. No, i meant about the pricing.
The RX 480 was like $100 more expensive here at launch, and it only down like $20 ever since then.

I'm saying this because no one in my country knows the actual price yet, but selling with original US price is kinda insane even if they partnered with AMD.
>>
>>59095796
>No, i meant about the pricing.
Yes, that's what I was also referring to. Prices of RX 480 was high at launch because 14nm production was new and AMD issued not many units at launch, so initial asking price went up because of high demand. With high Ryzen supply at launch they can meet demand and keep the prices at recommended.
>>
>>59095822

Still, I'm wondering if the price will rise up when the pre-order end.
This is the first time I saw a PC hardware sold at the same dollar just like in the US, not in the last 15 years I ever seen something like this.
I've been mass messaging every online stores and store owner I knew to ask about the actual price when its ready, and most of them either doesn't know or doesn't want to give any information.

The down side is even if I pre-order there is not a single store selling the motherboard yet in my country.
