>deathstar
Yes you did

ultrastars are NOT deskstars/deathstars you moron.

op could have done worse for 20 bucks.

the 65 dollar 3TB HGST enterprise series drive i got on newegg is worth it's weight in gold, will probably buy a few more of them down the line.

I was also looking at those to purchase in a couple weeks, but saw this and decided to pull the trigger.

Not bad for $30 actually. It's a good idea to have extra drives around.

I have a shit load of hard drives that I've accumulated over time, and literally just wipe and install whenever I feel like doing a new project.

Also works well for huge ghetto substitute for USB drives storing random shit.
>>
>>59073562

me too, but they're all fucking 40-120GB IDE drives.

feels like ssd prices are never gonna come down significantly so i've gone back to spinners for muh games.
>>
>>59073669
Just get a $40 128GB SSD of some sort, even the most basic SSD will offer a major speedup in any given game. You won't be able to cram EVERYTHING onto it, so just install what you're currently playing
>>
If you don't have a SAS controller then you dun goofed because they're useless without one.

Otherwise you scored pretty good if the drives are somewhat low hours or new.

15,000 RPM is definitely quick for spinning rust, although not near SSD speeds in any measure.
>>
They're good and reliable, but 15K has higher fail rates than 10K drives. $30 bucks for the lot is a deal for sure, and if you RAID them it's not going to be impossible to migrate the data when the RAID is on its last leg.
>>
>>59074502
Well shit I don't, but would buying a Poweredge 2950, taking the SAS card out and putting it into my PC work? I can get one for 25 bucks right now.
>>
>>59073978

i have 3 ssd's, i just want bigger ones for what they're actually worth.
>>
>>59073669
if you want a game exclusive drive, try to find one that spins around 300mb read, keep it defragged, and you get near ssd performance on games that don't have fuckloads of random read. ssds tend to cap performance somewhere around 400 to 500mb read because there are other bottlenecks, the files are not uncompressed.

its why you see little to no benefit from decent sata ssd to nvme ssd
