hi /mpv/

pic related, mpv 0.24 on my 4k LG montor (10 bit @ full PC levels output):

Does Pixel Format: p010 mean that it outputs at 10 bit?

Why are the Levels: limited ? In AMD settings, it clearly shows PC levels (0-255). Is this an incorrect stat or is something wrong?
>>
>>59069127
why is it so blurry?

Videos always encoded in limited range

>>
>>59078494
it's easy to see for you and me that the ngu image is simply sharper than the jinc image with no dramatic added detail (and with no added artifacts, either, which is quite important). however, why don't you try to take the jinc upscaled image and post-sharpen it to get the same result as the ngu image? for your reference, here are the original images:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/193112
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/193113

i've tried to sharpen the jinc image, but i can't get anything even remotely near to the ngu image, when comparing overall quality. i dare you to give it a try yourself! if you manage to get near to the ngu image by sharpen the jinc image, please let me know which sharpening algorithms and which settings you were using.
>>
>>59078617
>i dare you to give it a try yourself!
already did, with adaptive-sharpen.
the only difference is that ngu doesn't bloat edges
>>
>>59070547

>>
>>59078698
i had tried with AdaptiveSharpen myself, but to me the result looked quite far away from ngu, overall. not sure why.

ngu also removes ringing from the source and has lower aliasing than jinc. maybe that's the reason? both of these are properties that sharpening can't reproduce.
>>

I think it shouldn't be a problem if your source is at least 480p

Is it possible to use mpv as a network stream player just like VLC? I have a Raspberry Pi 3 as a torrenting box with my external HDDs plugged into it and I'm watching my videos by transferring them via scp first to my desktop. If I could stream it via network, that'd be great.

Thanks!
>>
>>59080317
mpv needs ffmpeg compiled with libssh for that to work. I don't think lachs0r's builds have that if you're on Windows. Your torrenting box probably doesn't need any setup.
>>
>>59080317
You just need an ssh server on the one you're pulling from and an ssh client on the one doing the actual pulling

sftp isn't really a thing

Newbie to mpv here with a question. Suppose I have set up two profiles in my mpv.conf like this:

## Video Settings

[interpolation]
interpolation=yes
video-sync=display-resample

[default]
profile=opengl-hq
hwdec=auto

According to the manual, I can use the option "apply-profile" to assign my profiles to different keybinds. So, if I add the following to my input.conf:

CTRL+d apply-profile "default"
CTRL+i apply-profile "interpolation"

when I press the corresponding keybind during playback, it should switch profiles right?

That's what I'm talking about, when I use that it only loops the first file in the playlist and the others are unlooped.

You can do all that with default keybindings.

In SMPlayer, can I just overwrite the files in mpv folder with the new ones?

Works here, with loop-file in mpv.conf skips to the next image only manually

Yeah it works or yeah it's bugged? I haven't updated mpv in forever so maybe that's why it's not working for me.

Found a solution, using --reset-on-next-file=loop-file works.

How do I force the playlist to show on startup?
Waiting for the osc to popup and shift-clicking specifically on tiny buttons is really getting old

Please respectful windows users, don't use mpv on your machines, it's a fucking trap. You should use mpc-be with madvr, you will get the best available software, performance and picture quality.
>>

It's like using wine on ubuntu to install/use the adobe suite.
It works with major issues but damn, nobody wants that.

How to get the screenshot template to replicate MPC-HC? I'm using "%f_snapshot_%wH.%wM.%wS_[%tY.%tm.%td_%tH.%tM.%tS]" but the thing is that includes the hour as 00 even when the file is less than an hour long.

HOLY SHIT THE FUCK DAMNED RUSSIAN SLAVE FROM HELL

The potplayer guy is making the same errors than the mpv ones.
Why the fuck are you changing the gui/skin all the time!

Why the fuck is he using YELLOW as main color now? YELLOW!
At least bluray and 3d work flawlessly unlike on mpv that is made by the plex pirate platform.

the top is idle, at the time I didn't think of pot player and couldn't be asked to re do it. the rest is showing you the exact same minute long clip across the 4 players

the only major fuckup but still minor enough to not warrant fixing the image was i mixed up mpv and mpchc in the resource usage

long story short, all 3 modern players play close enough to each other that I can be discriminatory in which one has the ui I like more, which happens to be mpchc followed by pot.

Just werks on my machine. mpv's default backend settings give me better performance than madVR. Don't listen to these threads when it comes to ANGLE, it's all FUD and memes from people who don't even have mpv and/or Windows installed.

>>59087613
>>trusting google technology
Not just Google. ANGLE has Mozilla and Microsoft contributors too. Microsoft actually recommend ANGLE over WGL on MSDN for developers who want to create new OpenGL apps, or to port their existing GLES iOS/Android games to UWP. That's a pretty good endorsement.

>>using angle as default on the most used os
If it's good enough to be used as default by Chrome and Firefox, which are two of the largest and most popular Windows programs, it's good enough for mpv.

Remember, Google Chrome uses ANGLE for all rendering, not just for WebGL. Google have money to burn, but even they don't think it's worthwhile to create a Windows-specific Direct3D 11 native renderer backend for Chrome. Despite this, Chrome is the most popular program on the Windows platform and the most popular browser in the world. So why should mpv bother with a """native""" Direct3D 11 backend?
>>
do you know any universal ways for downloading videos with mpv while playing?

I came up with a lua script, but it doesn't work everywhere

function to_download_video()
path = mp.get_property("path")
title = mp.get_property("media-title")
title = title:gsub("%/", "-")
pos = mp.get_property("playlist-pos")
video = mp.get_property("playlist/" .. pos .. "/filename")
if string.find(path, "youtube.com") then
io.popen([[xterm -e youtube-dl "]] .. path .. [["]])
else
io.popen([[xterm -e wget -o ~/.wget-log -O "]] .. title .. [[" "]].. video .. [["]])
end
end

mp.add_key_binding("alt+d", "download_video", to_download_video)

for instance can't download videos in playlist started with --ytdl or videos from other than youtube sites and i don't wanna write if statement for every site

you have been fooled. mpv is crap.

most dithering options are also on mpc sind 100 years, and the real good stuff like motion interpolation mpv cant do well either.

actually, how about you try sharpen complex 2 shader on mpc for anime? beats that useless lanczos any day.

The default backend is terrible on my new graphic card with dxva2-copy but works perfectly with d3d11va-copy. Is it normal? Why there are any other player with d3d11va decoder?

I was using potplayer because it has a custom DRC feature that works very well on my 2.1/stereo setup, but the recent changes and the closed source aspect make me move to mpv. Are there any conf line to simulate the potplayer DRC effect?
>>
>>59098285
and with d3d11va instead of d3d11va-copy it will work even better
