Redpill me about the QX9650, /g/
>>59065937
get a modded xeon instead, it's cheaper
>>59066107
But I wanna be one of the cool kids.
>>59066107
This
you can also get xeons with a lower tdp at a relatively small expense of frequency (QX9650: 3GHz/130W; E5440: 2.83 GHz/80W)
>>59066107
>modded xeon
modded how?
>>59067072
http://www.overclock.net/t/1431723/mod-lga775-support-for-lga771-xeon-cpus
you can do it yourself or buy them already modded.
keep in mind motherboard compatibility, though.
>>59067132
Seems like you can build a really cheap computer that way. But for what?
>>59067216
Escaping the botnet on Libreboot.
>>59067072
1. make cutouts for S775 notches, or remove notches from the socket
2. use a foil adapter to swap 2 signal pins
3. find a modded bios for your motherboard with xeon microcode, or make it yourself with mmtool
you can buy pre-modded xeons on ali with 1-2 already done for you.
3 is not strictly necessary, but some features like speedstep might not work
>>59067216
Dumpster tier late 00s box + $6 xeon + extra memory = very snappy internets/office computer
Or you just get a common as shit q6600 and bsel mod it from 2.4 to 3ghz
>>59067725
costs the same as a xeon and not guaranteed to work
I have a Q9650 in an EVGA motherboard with an nvidia chipset somewhere.
Good overclocking fun back in them days
>>59067725
>Q6600
>3 GHz not guaranteed
>8 MB cache
>100W TDP stock, probably 120+ with BSEL mod
>E5450
>3 GHz
>12 MB cache
>80W TDP
>L5430
>2.66 GHz
>12 MB cache
>50W TDP

you dumb niggers you cant install certain operating systems because it just hangs indefinitely during the install. look it up. you must have a normal socket cpu first, install whatever fucking shit os you're using and then swap the cpu for a memeon.
>>59068136
>it just hangs indefinitely during the install
why would it do that? does the os installer make some cpu check?
>>59068136
You need a normal cpu to mode the bios with the microcode, after that you can install whatever you want. Getting an ancient S775 pentium for that is not an issue though.

i dont know mate, ask intel.
seen it happen many times with win10 and win81, only happened twice with loonix i cant remember which one, some redhat flavor i think.
I recently build a system for someone using an ancient PC I had laying around to a x5450 for only 15 dollars.
Added a ATI 6450 I had laying around from my ancient htpc and will added a chinese 25 dollar SSD.
Penny pinching to a ludicrous level.
