Do you have any advice for better performance on hackintosh with thinkpads? The monitor is a 1920 by 1200. I might just be expecting too much of a smooth performance since I was running i3 on it before but there's some stutters and slow downs that I do not feel are natural.

iMessage is very unlikely to work without some major tweaking since it relies on the s/n and other hardware info and since that is generated randomly by clover and fakeSMC it does not appear as a real computer to Apple. There are guides on how to get it work though.
Battery life on my T420 is about the same as under linux, around 7h of light work on a new 9cell, 4-5h of no radios work on a raped 5000mAh 9cell.

That's a big part of it. If you have the same level of brightness across the board, monitors don't look overexposed if you expose for the rest of the room and vice versa. Apart from that, I use very low ISO (50) and usually shoot at 1/4s shutter speed. If your camera/phone isn't that great, you can try doing a long exposure, or instead just increasing the ISO, but keep in mind that this will make the shots really noisy and grainy. Still, keeping the light levels uniform is the best tip for shots like this.
