what did they mean by this?

Free as in freedom, not free as in beer.

but explain HOW? if the software if free as in freedom then why would i buy it if i can get the source code from a friend who owns this and compile it myself. whats the point of selling?
>>59037894
Why would you go to the store and buy bottled water when you can just collect water from the rain?
>>59037894
Convenience
>>59038068
thats a bad analogy. i would rather take the 3 minutes and compile the source for free instead of paying physical monetary resources obviously
what is your point?

Free Software is usually sold with support contracts
>>59038477
This. CentOS is just RHEL without any of Red Hat's branding. A lot of companies still use RHEL though, even though they can get CentOS for free, because RHEL offers support contracts.
>>59038477
It can be sold with support contracts. Or similar arrangements, where you ask the vendor "I'd like the software to do X", and they write the code to make it do that for a fee.
But that isn't necessary. Yes, anyone can distribute the software without charging and you're free to get it at no cost from one of those people instead of paying to order a copy. Usually people that buy copies of free software do so either because they want to support the organization selling the copy, or because they have sharp limits on bandwidth. If your internet connection is 128kbps you might well prefer to drop five bucks on a DVD instead of downloading it. But you don't have to if you don't want to.
it means you should burn a bunch of ubuntu discs and sell them to everyone. commie logic B T F O

>distribute free software for a fee
>some tard buys it
>he can distribute it any way he wants vis-à-vis freedom 2
>you make no money
Stallman is a fucking idiot

worth every penny.

Or you could just use GParted Live. For free.
>>59037751
Is English too hard for you?
>>59037894
This is exactly why it doesn't work. But don't worry, according to Stallman all the people who use your free software will donate you like 5 bucks each and you'll be swimming in money. What a wonderful world!
