obvious but 100% true copypasta

I used to own an iPhone 5, 6, and 7 btw

Let's run down the list

Android phones let you:
>have real encryption with no backdoors
>download over 100MB over mobile data
>install a third party app launcher and icons
>use it as a flash drive
>share any kind of file over wifi/bluetooth
>torrent via torrent clients in the playstore
>install apps outside the playstore
>modify a few system settings to increase performance and decrease battery drain
>manually control complex camera functions via third party apps
>natively browse files
>view better colors via amoled displays
>browse 4chan and natively open webms inside them via third party apps
>extract/browse archives
>add additional phone storage via a micro SD card
>replace the stock battery with a bigger one
>add widgets to your home screen
>access important functions by swiping down

ALL WITHOUT HAVING TO HACK YOUR PHONE

You can spout all the "lagdroid XDddd---" memes you want but Android phones truly are more advanced than itoddler phones and the reason why they hold over 90% of the global smartphone market share right now.

>>59035763

My autism compelled me to put this together and these are all the reasonable options I see for what I need.

I live in US and have at&t, so no chinkshit.

I work in lawn irrigation and take calls in the field so I either need a water resistant phone or one that has good case options. When I price in a case, it's typically one that provides sufficient protection, such as lifeproof.

I am currently using a Galaxy S5 which met my needs when I bought it, but the thing has just turned to slow shit for at least the past year. I really hate Samsung shit.

It seems like most of what I see other contractor type guys using is S7's or iPhones. I've never owned an iPhone and really don't like using them, but I'm at my wits end with android's offerings. But I do love ricing the shit out of my phone and I have like $60 in play credit stored up from Google Rewards.

Price is definitely a large factor for me, but it doesn't look like I have much choice if I set a budget. Suffice to say the OnePlus 3T is the most expensive phone I can buy off-contract.

What is my best bet?

The Moto Z Play seems like really great value for the money, I'm just not sold on the durability of the thing. Same for the Zuk and Honor 8. Although the Z Play may have better case options than the chink phones. Another issue I have with it is that it costs as much as the 3T without looking as nice, but this is subjective. Do you know of any good cases for the Z?

I think I will add the Z to my list of considerations since I've heard great things about the battery life.

One week feels like forever when I'm dealing with my S5, but yeah I will be waiting.

I use my phone a lot as a GPS unit since I do house calls for lawn irrigation. Beyond that, I have to carry it with me while I'm working in case I get another call. During the summer time my pants can get soaked three or more times in a day. I can see that I'm hard on my phones. Considering buying a separate gps unit since that is hell on the battery of a phone.
>>
>>59037983
Do you feel you'd need flagship tier specs with your use? The Moto G4 would handle most phone stuff just as fine as the phones 2-3x its price.

>buying even numbered galaxys, ever
>>
>>59038149
Well yes and no. I only say yes because they main reason I'm upgrading from the S5 is how slowly it chugs along. It's a very frustrating experience to open maps, dial phone numbers, and read text messages. The second reason is that the battery drops crazy fast, but I can live with that since I can charge it when I drive.

But the answer is also no because it isn't the specs that matter, but rather the performance. I don't care about driving some 1440p screen, I just want to be able to see it in the daytime and not pull my hair out using it. I love the price of the Moto G4 Plus and it seems good. Very excited to see more of the Moto G5 (hopefully) next week.

>>
>>59038352
Have you tried a factory reset, or installing a custom ROM on the S5? It's a recent enough phone that it shouldn't be lagging near as much as what you're describing. I have a phone with the same chipset and it's absolutely smooth and lagfree.

Also the S5 has a replaceable battery so buying a new battery should fix it draining fast. There's also extended batteries available for it that have double or even triple the original capacity, if you don't mind the added bulk.
>>
>>59036680
Oh shit really? Welp better luck next time I guess
>>
>>59038647
Not a bad idea doing a factory reset, it's just that I've heard very similar complaints from owners of the phones. The performance seems to drop very badly whenever they roll out updates. But I suppose there's no harm in giving it a try.

I'm a little shy about replacing the battery since I did the same thing for my dad's S4 Active, but the battery life didn't actually get better. The problem for him wasn't the battery wearing out, but actually the phone just wanting more power.

I looked around at installing a more stock-like ROM, but I just wasn't able to find a simple enough guide for my understanding. I know that this specific version (the at&t variant) has a locked bootloader.

I will do a factory reset, and if the performance becomes bearable I could grab a zero-lemon case.
Thanks.

Benchmarks don't tell much about real life performance. And the difference is quite small anyway (Redmi 4A gets around 10% less).

Xiaomi has a better track record than Oukitel on keeping their phones updated and the Mediatek SoC in the Oukitel means it'll probably never get custom ROMs for it.

US, MetroPCS/T-Mobile, Android, $250, at least 2gb RAM and 16GB storage, and 5' screen (can go a bit larger).

Long battery life is an absolute must, and a decent camera would be nice too. My iPhone 5s has been abused a lot and it's on its last legs, and the battery is fucked.

Does anyone know if there is a quick way to tell if a device is root-able?
I have a list of phones with acceptable processors, and I've weeded out those which my carrier doesn't support. Now, i'd like to cross-check the results with a list of root-able phones.
I started using the Lineage OS website, but i know some root-able phones aren't supported by Lineage.
Is there perhaps another ROM that supports nearly everything? Or possibly another that i can use in conjunction with Lineage's list?

Also, for recommendations:

>United States
>At&t (through StraightTalk), GSM
>less than $350

Honestly, the OnePlus 3T would be perfect, but i can't spend $400+ burgerbucks.

Huawei Mate 9 is now $600. Other than the low DPI and no splash resistance, any other reasons to not buy? I was looking at the Pixel XL but $770 seems a bit high.

Huawei Mate 9 uses Huawei's in-house Kirin SoC so it won't get a lot of custom ROMs developed for it, if any. If that's something you care about you're better off getting a phone with a Snapdragon SoC such as Oneplus 3T or HTC 10.

It's alive, but in a state of limbo. Development of the platform is slow and unfocused. If you can drop money on a Lumia and not regret it I suggest trying it out. Microsoft is improving but slowly. Just be aware you'd be buying into a beta program.

I'd buy a Lumia as well since I'd like my laptop be part of the whole ecosystem but dropping money on a device's unsure support is not an option. For the money I'd spend I can go with a safe Android device.

Alright so I want the iphone 6s 128 gb and looking to get a 3 gb/month plan.
Which company offers special promotions for transferring your line/number over if I currently owe nothing for my current provider?
I was considering at&t but apparently their system won't register unless you have a contract with another company.
>>
>>59057847
Nope, Axon 7
>>
>>59058111
Straight talk can port any active number, and 5gb high-speed then throttled is $45/mo. Uses at&t towers. The only downside is really shit customer service.
>>
>>59058565
no 6s phones other than the 16gb version available on their website

>buy HTC10
>Facebook is pre-installed
>Can't uninstall without rooting
>Can't root without voiding warranty
>Can't void warranty yet because there is a chance I might need to take advantage of HTC's policy of replacing your phone outright if you damage it

literally who benefits from this

I thought you could unlock the bootloader on the HTC 10 without voiding the warranty?
>>
>>59058950
>>59059157
This. Unless there is a difference between the two? I never really looked into it.

At the very least you can uninstall the updates and just tuck it away.
>>
I have one hour left to decide if I'm going to get the LG v20. I don't know brehs indecision abounds, it has a removable battery and SD slot but scared of the boot loop demon and commitment most of all
>>
>>59059324
do it
the pain of loss means that you've lived
you don't live a fulfilling live by playing it safe
risk it all

Is an IPS noticeably worse than an amoled? Why shouldn't I get an axon 7?
>>
>>59054859
It is always a good time. Waiting doesn't work. If you're on a tight budget you can hunt for good deals around though
>>
Why the FUCK is my Galaxy s7 edge having unbearably slow loading speeds on the internet? It's not a wifi issue as all my other devices have normal working speeds but this is just ridiculous. My screen protector also made using it far more difficult to use than it needs to be since most of the time, my touches aren't registering. Plz help /g/.
>>
Is the Moto Z camera mod worth it?
>>
Guys. I'm conflicted.

>Have Nexus 5X
>Use busted ass ipod in car to listen to music but the battery is finally starting to go
>5X doesn't have expandable memory and it's full

Well, FUCK.

Please recommend guize
>Phone comparable in quality to 5X
>Expandable memory or at least 32gigs
>Stock Android preferrable(Installing ROMs are okay)

How much are you trying to spend?
Moto XPE
Huawei Honor 8
ZTE Axon 7
LeEco S3
Zenfone 3 Deluxe
>>
>>59060066
My bad. Forgot to throw in a price.

Probably ~$250.

My biggest issue is performance(switching apps and things like that). I have a lot of downtime at work so I'm on my phone a lot of the day.
>>
>>59060113
I'd say a Moto XPE or Honor 8 off Swappa, another decent one would be the Blade V8 Pro
>>
>>59060132
Thanks.

I'm in no rush as my shit ass ipod should hold out.

I'm gonna research for a while. Really appreciate it mang.
>>
>>59060161
Also check out the Honor 6X, avoid anything with the Snapdragon 615 or 617
>>
LeEco Le S3 or LeEco Cool1 Dual?

Cool1 looks like it has better low light photos but Le S3 looks like it has better audio since CDLA is better (Cool1 only has 3.5mm if I recall). Also Le S3 ships with a CDLA earphone.
>>
I see huawei phones being recommended here, how good are the phones?

How's the android skins compared to stock? I see them having good cameras and a sd card slot so they don't sound so bad.
>>
>>59060268
Honor 6X is a good phone, it has an antutu of 44K which is low but it has 2 (2!) rear cameras and give very good photos.
>>
>>59060278
>44k
That's what my fucking Blu Life One X2 does with a SD 435
>>
>>59059157
The bootloader is unlocked out of the box.
>>
I think I am going to get the Oneplus 3T. I currently have an LG V10 and I'm sick of it. I've read it's a pretty good phone and the price point makes it even better. I'm seeing pictures of the S8 and they are kinda making me wet.

Should I wait? Also, does anyone have experience with the audio playback on the Oneplus? I've heard it's not as good as the Axon 7 with its DAC, but does it sound like shit? The way they have the software mess with the audio makes it very bassy.

Can we agree this is the best flagship out now regardless of the price? That lack of bezel is great and it even comes with a slim case
>>

Go for it. Just bought a Z3 used for 205 and apart from some screen scratches and a faulty top loudspeaker, it's the perfect phone.

It sounds stupid, but I want to buy a phone that will run KitKat.
4.4 was last good version

Is Redmeme Note 4X Gray worth 165$?
What about LineageOS support?

From Aus, have $500 AUD budget for phone, what recommendations?

Oneplus 3 / 3T, Axon 7

Fuck. My moto x pure edition doesn't charge anymore. Well it does, but I have to put increasingly gradual pressure on the cable toward the face. First it started with putting it on top of a wallet so the slight incline can do it. Now I'm just stacking things on top of my phone, near a divet in my computer case. It's not the cable, because I used two different cables.

What do you guys think I should do? I bought it over a year ago so I can't return it. And I bought it unlocked so I can't exactly complain to my phone company about it.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap $80 dollar phone off of amazon. Thinking about one of those Blu phones. Just in case my phone stops charging completely

Talk me out of this
>>
>>59061719
Ask Motorola customer service if they'll replace the charging port for a fee. If not, take it to your local phone repair store and ask how much they'll charge for it.
>>
>>59061796
I already looked into the local stores one. Charging port is built in to the motherboard. Some third party won't be able to fix it

Repair would probably then cost more than a new phone. But I'll look into it anyway. Thanks for the idea

Try f droid
>>
>>59061902
There are 3 tetris games on F-Droid. All of them have buttons for controls (which is slow and stupid), and you can't go back after trying swipe controls like in the EA Tetris games.
