Can I? How to? Does it work?
All things NAS related are a GO!
Hi,
I want to buy two My Cloud 4TB units and I want to keep them at separate locations. Can I set these two units to keep synchronizing their database every morning, starting at, let’s say 4am?
I am trying to come up with a solution that will serve my needs and provide me with a high degree of security for my data, as a Toshiba HDD failed on me a few weeks ago and even a reputable data recovery center cannot do anything, as it was not a popular HDD.
I will keep bulk of my data on a personal PC (3TB max estimate for next 4+ years)
Small data will be coming in from 4 mobile devices (260 GB max estimate for next 4+ years)
All data will be transferred during the day or in the evening to Unit #1 My Cloud 4TB via WiFi.
All data will be synchronized daily starting at 4am between Unit #1 My Cloud 4TB and Unit #2 My Cloud 4TB.
Weekly backup will be performed from Unit #1 My Cloud 4TB via USB cable to an External 4TB HDD.
I dont usually reply to those things but rsync and google is your friend. Consider compression and encryption, in that order.
Install gentoo

solid.
i like toysync, RBS, and Backupexec is slightly complex

setup the 2 nas servers (I recommend freenas with raid 10 and 4 drives) Then setup a cronjob to rsync between the 2 addresses. Make sure you filter ip's though when you forward the port.
If you are worried about data loss, then get some sort of file server setup with a Raid 5 array. Those consumer USB storage devices fail too often.
Your could also use a cloud storage option in conjunction with your current setup, if you don't care about botnet. Amazon gives you unlimited storage for $60/year which is pretty fucking cheap.
