Yeah, this is the cheapest as quality goes, the Surface Pro is over 300.

Now add your rigged controller and physical keyboard, a good controller like the DS4 is going to cost at least 50 bucks and then you still don't have a keyboard. Now you have a 10 inch device that's nowhere as portable and you have to worry about two batteries.

Now you saved around 80 bucks and have a big clunky device that's inconvenient to use.

Once you get used to using it, and you tweak it a bit to cut out the windows bloat its actually really fun and quite natural to use. (And I got big chunky hands)

You need to have the turbo off by default though by setting the clock to 99%. Windows 10 basically forces it to clock up to 2.4ghz constantly and that generates a ton of heat and wastes battery.

Once you do that it idles at 45 degrees and goes up to like 60-70 on full load and doesn't get so hot.

Its perfect for playing my backlog of indie games and it emulates pretty well.
Currently Its the only handheld that can play PPSSPP with DirectX 11 rendering.

I only wish it could run demul at a good speed. NullDC is a chore to use.

If anything people don't downclock it enough. 1.6ghz quad core is more than enough for a lot of stuff. Hell you could downclock it to 1.2ghz and still use it casually and save more power.

A 128gb Samsung Fit is also a necessity for it.

Plus its got a solid wifi chip in it and streams games from steam pretty well.

You wont be beating the Abyss Watchers on it (I tried, just couldn't quite beat them), but you could probably stream any sort of rpg or platformer on it ok.

Yup. I set 100% to high performance. 99% I set on balanced profile. 80% I set myself for power saver. There's a registry entry you change for it to enable it.

Revision 1. Never opened it up so no hardware modding.

Newest intel drivers don't install on the Win for some reason (the very latest ones uploaded right? The one I have installed is 20.19.15.4331)

Basically what I did was up the thermal limits in the bios. (Not too necessary now), re-enabled S5 charging, set the power mode to S6 instead of S7. (I followed a post on the GPD Win reddit since its the most active place for it)

Disabled fast boot since that can have issues.

Disabled a bunch of windows functions Id never use. Easy to google for.

I might have enabled IGD thermal, or at least something like that in the past.I dont have it constantly on and boosted to max clock like some people have done.

I also set the DRAM speed to normal/typical (the guide says fast but it causes instability). I also down clocked the RAM down one stage.

In the past 50 mins I have used 5% of the battery web browsing on my balanced profile.

The trickiest thing is to try to get windows to stop scanning for updates and scanning large directories.

The trick is to first, enabled metered connection in the wifi setup (so it wont download updates so often), keep the default windows defender BUT put in some exclusion clauses that make it ignore my sd card and external usb directories so it doesn't try to scan those file heavy and large areas.

Current cpu usage is 8-12%. Using google chrome with ublock origin as my web browser has had best results so far.

CPU is at 2% usage now. Just excluded my GOG folder on my C:/ drive, AND closed down HWmonitor and task manager.

Chinese devices are hit and miss by nature. I just got really damn lucky I tamed my device and it had no major issues.

I had to reinstall windows entirely on it once since I accidentally let it sleep this one time and it crashed during its sleep and it locked itself into a bootloop and I had no recovery setup.

So you know I am more than happy to collate my best advice together and share it.

I also make sure that when the lid is closed the device does nothing and only the screen turns off after a few minutes.
Because honestly you cant blame me for being paranoid.

Another owner here, this thing is sure 'quirky' to put it best. It doesn't always sleep right other anon mentioned it going into a deep sleep. The keyboard is somehow worse than a touch screen but at least it doesn't eat up half the screen. Sd card read speeds could be better. It is pretty solid but not solid enough that I actually feel comfortable keeping it in my pants pocket. Also I hope they come out with a fix to map the buttons to our liking

That said I love this little thing and I doubt anything better will come out for the next 5 years
