It's funny you mention that, because I came to ask about this layout.
A friend of mine needs 10key, but would like to save space, and wants to upgrade from his super cheapo mech keyboard. I showed him this board and he absolutely loved the layout, but it appears that the compact SQ is one of those stupid boards that someone commissions 10 of and then you don't see for another 10 months until there's another interest check. I'm also wary of group buys from what I've seen...

What other options do I have for this layout? Preferably in kit form so I can put the switches he wants in it without a bunch of desoldering.
>>
Anybody here who knows where to get a pok3r in germany? Amazon is sold out and candykeys.com is under maintenance for god knows how long
>>
>>59015175
ZZ96 or Red Scarf 96
You can find the Red Scarf on taobao. I think there's a geekhack thread that has links, but I'm too lazy to find it.
>>
>>59015175
If he wants the exact 1800 layout there aren't any regularly available kit options.

Leopold has the FC980M prebuilt board

Or you can get an RS96 kit from taobao as the other anon said if the gap between the parts isn't important

Or there's the winkeyless b.mini ex kit which is a 75% + numpad board
>>
>>59015197
mykeyboard.eu has some if you're fine with blues
>>
>>59015297
The spacing isn't important, but a compact fullsize is what we're looking for.
The RS96 may work, I'll have to make sure he's fine with the short R shift
>>
>>59015341
The 1800 and 96-key both have those 1.75u right shifts, so if he likes the 1800 it should be fine.
>>
>>59015329
I'm not since I want to use it at work, but thanks anyway
>>
Fug, I waited too long for the originative co modern beige weeb keycap set and it's sold out.

Is anyone getting plum? looks p-good but I'd want to get it for my pok3r and I'm not sure it'd look good with the white plate it's got
>>
>>59015718
I am getting plum. Somebody on geekwack described abs keycaps as being like raw denim and I fell for the meme. Is the plate really that visible? I am getting them for an all black board but I think they would look fine on white.

anyone in the UK in the market for a model M?
>>
>>59015887
Don't listen to geekwhack, they advocate putting stickers in between the halves of mx switches despite no evidence it does a single thing
>>
>>59015969
You can look up videos of switch wobble with/without the silly stickers. Most people even on geekhack will say it's not worth the effort for such a trivial amount of change.

Liking my MOD-H switches so far. They've got a nice, business-like thock to them. Feels vintage in a way.
>>
>>59015887
so what is the actual difference between abs vs pbt, quality wise and feel wise.

Is there an objectively superior choice or does it come down to user preference?
>>
>>59016181
PBT never yellows, it also almost never develops shine, and is also a softer plastic which feels nice to the touch.
>>
>>59016181
PBT doesn't shine up anywhere near as fast as ABS. Usually PBT caps have a finer texture to them (think very smooth sandpaper or something). That does depend on the mold though. I'm sure you can find macro shots comparing texture between caps.

How's an AULA F2012 for my first mechanical keyboard? It's the cheapest one I can find on eBay that actually has reviews.

There's other unbranded stuff for 15-25€ but i'm pretty sure i'm gonna get chinked if I order those and I won't get an actually mechanical keyboard.
>>
>>59016254
>>59016229
So PBT is the way to go. Got it.

Using an HHKB but because I'm a gaymer I would prefer one of these.
It's hard to hit some keys that require 2 fingers and the 1800 layout seems like the smallest acceptable without losing any functionality.
>>
A good mechanical keyboard is simple:

MX Brown switches
PBT keycaps
TKL unless you absolutely need ten key
Heavy
No frills (and absolutely no always-on LEDs)

I have a KUL ES87 at home and Leopold FC900R at work
>>
>>59017622
>MX Brown
not even going to bother reading the rest
leave that bait until the end
>>
>>59017622
>MX Brown switches
too complicated buckling spring is a much simpler design
>>
On my ducky shine, my right shift key frequently sticks when I press it on the right side of the key, in that it doesn't completely return to its normal unpressed state until I nudge it. I've only had it for a few weeks, so its well under warranty and I think ill just rma it. But are there any quick fixes I can try to repair it before I send it out?
>>
>>59017652
Sorry, I'm an adult, not a gaymer.

OFFICIAL CHERRY MX SWITCH POWER RANKINGS

Black>Blue>>>>>Clear>>>Red>Green>White>>>>>>Crap>>>>Brown
>>
>>59017673
and is that fact supposed to magically make MX browns good?
>>
>>59017665
What switch? Is it blues? That sounds more like an issue with the cherry switch rather then the keyboard
>>
>>59017687
If you weren't so mentally weak and influenced by /g/ group think, you'd realize that they're very good.
>>
>>59017673
And that's suposed to mean what exactly? If you really were an adult you'd be using a rubber dome keyboard
>>
>>59017711
I own them and they're trash
gateron is better
now stop trying to justify your bad decisions and shit taste
>>
>>59017711
maybe if its your first mechanical switch, but once you try others you'd quickly realize how underwhelming they are.
>>
>>59017725
>geteron

HAHAHAHAHA

Oh god, you're done here. Sorry you can't afford the real thing.
>>
>>59017732
I have no interest in typing on a sponge or ensuring that people a half-mile away can hear me typing,
>>
>>59017746
as I said, I own MX browns as well as gateron ones
also have MX blues and gateron reds
can you even read? I thought you were an adult
>>
>>59017759
Then you really haven't tried other switches, but now that I know your baiting I'll just filter you
>>
>>59017698
Yeah its blues, i removed to keycap and tested the switch by pressing it, it seemed fine even when I tried pressing it from different angles. I was thinking it might be a stabilizer problem so I lubed it up a little. All it did was instead of getting stuck and needing a nudge, sometimes it would pop up on its own after a few seconds. But it was still getting stuck.
>>
>>59017763
You convinced yourself they're trash because you couldn't afford them on your newest board.

Do your mental gymnastics make you sweat?

I had that same exact problem on my keyboard with blues too. It turns out that its actually a common issue with cherry MX blues. I just hammered the switch down and it went away after a week.
>>
>>59017795
I don't think I'm the one making mental gymnastic when you're the retard triggered about your shit switch and assuming I'm poor. As I said, I own keyboards with Cherry browns, blues, Gateron red and browns, and Cherry ones are trash. I guess you're the poor one who can't afford to buy other keyboards and try new switches, because you spent your entire monthly allowance on a mistake.
>>
>>59017825
>making mental gymnastic

Sorry, I didn't realize you were ESL. No wonder you're so confused and Sinophilic.
>>
>>59017850
Out of arguments so you decided to complain about a typo? That says a lot about how triggered you are right now.
>>
>>59017885
Humor me: what do you think the typo was? "Making mental gymnastics" is no better. Work on your verbs, Chang.

>>
>miss royal navy DSA GB

>>59018253
You can use literally any DSA keyset as long as you have non-dished F and J keys.

>>59019158
He's right DSA sets are uniform meaning that you can rearrange them however you want
>>
I'm hesitant on buying an expensive laptop and i dont see the point of buying keyboard more than $50. so can anyone recommend me one under $50?
>>
>>59019270
Tomoko can be hand for under 30 bucks. There are also others like Magicforce for 40 bucks
>>
>>59017652
How about you justify your point?

Why are MX Browns inferior? Inferior to what?

Learn how to construct and argument please.
>>
What do you guys think of a b.mini? I was considering building this:
B.mini
67g zealios
Plum GMK caps

Probably doing the acrylic underglow case, and south switch LEDs

Thoughts?
>>
>>59019222
>>59019158
I'm aware of that, it's just that there are no keys with é,è etc on them
I could get DSA granite with mono legends, but it's all out of stock
>>
>>59016016
Got Mod-L in my Minivan und am a fan so far. Could be a little heavier but they do have a nice feel. The tactility is subtle, but they feel slick and responsive.

I might use H's in my next 40% build, or custom switches (MX Clear stem, clear Gat housing, 80g springs)
>>
>>59019653
then get the international kit that come with many of these sets
>>
So for my first board I was thinking of either browns or reds (blues are too loud for my taste). Which of the two does /mkg/ recommend?
>>
>>59017981
>green and blue not tactile
>not liking buckling springs

your opinion and image are shit and you should feel bad. you're probably a manlet, woman, or asian.

>>
>>59019954
Just for reference, was probably going to get the CM Quickfire with reds. I have heard they are a little light to type on and don't know how true that is and if I should just get a keyboard with browns instead.
>>
>>59020016
what sets are you looking at. All the newer ones have those keys
>>
>>59020073
HC granite, ice cap, eve etc
Quartz is the only one I've seen with french keys, and it's out of stock

Guess I'll wait til they release a new one
>>
>>59015146
nah, its a 60% plate and PCB that support an arrow cluster and can fit in any standard 60% case
>>
I got an SA set coming -eventually-, but all of the 60/65% keyboards that I've been looking at have at least one cap that is the wrong size.

How hard is it to snag SA singles? Or, is there a smaller-than-80% keyboard that only uses pieces from a standard 108 set?
>>
>>59020322
well if the set was a one off then its pretty hard. If its a common set that restocks a couple times a year then they usually have a bunch of unsold keys lying around. They charge 10 bucks per individual key tho
>>
WASD V2 104 keys Black Keycaps + White Text with Cherry MX Blue for 150$ is this a good deal.
>>
what chink sites sell the anne pro besides banggood?
>>
>>59020322
SA isn't a cheap game man.. I want to go SA on a 40% I'm building but there's just no way to the caps I need without buying a bunch of individual keys at 10 dollars a pop. Even going uniform R3 across the board is working out like double the price of DSA..

what are some good wrist rests? Are Grafiti's good or should I just get something like a wood one?
>>
>>59021309
au contraire. Ultimately it's subjective, sure. But there are extremes where one type of switch is definitely better suited to a given purpose.

I've gamed on 80g tactile click switches and it was fatiguing after a while. They're amazing to type fast on, but for playing FPS for example using WASD they're not the best.

Complete contrast - I couldn't imagine typing on something like Gateron White.. 35g linear? But for certain games, maybe something that requires rapid button presses, I can maybe see the benefit.
>>
>>59021334
I opted for one of the 'Glorious PC Gaming Race' ones after considering Grifiti, among others.

A bit cheesy, sure, but good quality, reasonably priced and comfortable.
>>
>>59020751
Maybe white keys for F1-F4 and F9-F12
>>
>>59021334
apparently the glorious gaming ones are much better because they don't fray but mine accumulates dead skin and shit so it looks a bit nasty if I don't wipe it regularly, which is why I'm considering a different, non fabric one.
>>
>>59021334
They get worn out pretty fast from my experience with them. Not sure if they've improved it, but that cloth covering on the top comes of pretty quickly. It's comfortable, but I prefer a wooden one, which does the job of making your hands stay straight and also look great. There are some cheap ones on AliExpress.
>>
About to get the CM Quickfire with Cherry MX Red switches. Anyone have experience with this board? Also, does anyone know how the arrow keys work? I know they are bound to the numpad but I don't know how exactly they are supposed to work in conjunction with the number keys (the 2 key for example)

Got two keycap sets that arrived in the last few days:

*Filco ABS Double Shot SA Profile (Rebranded Signature Plastics)- Dark Bown with Cream Legends ($50 on KeyboardCo)

Both look great, but I definitely prefer the Filco ABS ones. Am I the only one here who prefers the feel of smooth ABS caps? I wish there was a way to combine the wear resistance and anti-oil properties of PBT with the feel, retro look, and ability to double shot of ABS.

that's funny since blacks are the cheapest and most common switch out there.
For that budget you can get a Ducky One (those have much better build quality and muh steel plate, programmable macros and layers, and a bunch of other features), Rosewill RK9000v2 (That's just a rebranded Filco), pretty much all the CM keyboards, or if you don't mind knockoffs then a Kaihua k16 would also work (those are like 60 bucks and come with better quality keycaps then the corsair keyboard)

The full size Ducky keyboards have dedicated volume keys above the numpad, but since the keyboard is programmable you can change them to media keys instead, thought the cheapest one is $99

>Kaihua k16

>>
>>59027878
>How do they feel?
they feel very similar to the point if you bring someone who's never tried a mechanical keyboard before they can't tell the difference. After a while you can tell the difference in the consistency of the switches as well as sound. For some reason kailh switches are a slightly higher pitch then cherry
>>
>>59027922
Ok so after some research I have come up with the following boards.
>Kaihua k16 with Cherry MX Browns (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1933)

>Ducky Zero (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=866)
and probably the Ducky One to upgrade with later or if I end up with some extra cash. Which do you think I should go with to start with though?

>>59028249

>>
Brown switches are a meme. If you type at a very fast speed bottoming out is unavoidable. What is the point of having tactile feedback if you're just gonna bottom them out all the time?

If I really, really pace myself I can avoid bottoming out but I'd rather type at my normal rate of 125WPM+

>>59029330
A combination of typing and gaming. My only worry is that I am a moderately heavy typist and have heard that blacks/browns are better for people that like to press down on their keys when they type. I am more worried about the lack of dedicated arrow keys though.
>>
>>59029344
I'm not sure how the arrow keys work on that board, but I assume you can just sorta lock the FN function to it.
As for the switches, I personally don't like browns, but never tried blacks. I own a keyboard with blues for general typing and one with reds for gaming and working, and they're both fine for those two use cases. Trying out the switches is really the best way to figure out what you like or don't like.
>>
>>59029297
I justed them out, you gotta recharge your account? I'd rather just pay upfront for my stuff.
>>
>>59029331
Because with Topre you have no choice but to commit, due to the way the rubber dome bends downwards. I used to play Overwatch using a 45g HHKB Type-S before switching to Reds, I would probably only go back if I had to. I used to toggle between my Filco Majestouch 2 w/ Browns and FC660M with Reds before deciding to stick with Reds. Recently bought a Ducky One with Reds too. It's just less taxing and easier to use Reds. On the other hand 30g Topre and Gateron Clear/30g are both awkwardly light for gaming.

I'm sure Gateron Reds and or Gateron Browns are also viable, but I have no experience with them.
>>
>>59029392
Yes. It's a bit odd, but it works. You need to charge up your account with the amount you're going to use (plus some extra for shipping) and then use it to make the purchase. Later you can ask for a refund if you have anything left over.
>>
>>59029401
I was under the assumption that linear was shit for gaming? Pretty sure that's what most people say.

Looking to get a mechanical keyboard in a month for my birthday. I'm after a 75% 84tkl, and I much prefer it to have the F1-F12 directly above the next row, as in pic related and others like the choc mini.

Is there anything inherently inferior about reds vs the tactile browns and blues, and is pic related with greetech switches godawful compared to cherries or similarish?

And if anyone has any better suggestions for cheaper/better 84tkl models I'm all ears, but I prefer the keys to be standard size so I can get my own caps too
>>
>>59032543
Reds, browns and blues all comes down to personal preference. They're just different styles, reds are a simple, light up and down motion with no interruptions, browns have a little bit of increased tactility to let you know when the actuation point is coming up, blues have both the tactile feeling of the click collar snapping up and the accompanying noise to indicate actuation but need to be let almost all the way up to properly reset.

Greetech are passable afaik, not as good as Cherry or Gateron, but not utterly awful.

>>
>>59035127
Get cherry mx super blacks
>>
>>59035063
>Greens or clears

blues are the best but annoying if around others
clears are best all around if on the go or with co-workers / spouse
greens are satisfying if you don't type more than a few emails and shitposts

get cherry, topre or alps because everything else is wannabe mode
>>
Guys I really like those SA keycaps with the big centered lettering but they're really fucking expensive. Do you guys know any cheapo chink ones in this style?
>>
>>59035747
To note, I don't care about the profile really just the large centered lettering.
>>
considering buying the CM NovaTouch as my first mechanical keyboard? should I? or is there better options out there?
>>
>>59035747
There are chink ones, but those are just as expenisve as cheap SA keycaps. The filco ones are like 60-70 bucks
>>
>>59035578
Doesn't matter, the name was in the post.
>>
What's a good 60%/TKL with cherry red or gateron red/clears?
>>

>>
>>59035886
I've been looking for a TKL with gateron reds for a while now, all I could find is that ugly transparent housing magicforce 108
>>
>>59035850
The Filco ones are made by SP.
>>
>>59035886
>>59035906
The TADA68 is close enough. Closer to a 60%, but it has arrow keys.
>>
>>59035904
Which one do you think would bring you greater happiness?
>>
>Budget

>Form factor

>Backlight
Not important
>Previous/current keyboards
Shitty rubber dome
>>
>>59035904
Why not buy a keyboard then get dragon dick keycaps
>>

>>

>>
