Speaking of which, Omega didn't swap dials between refs at all did they? This one on chrono24 claims to be a NOS ref 188.001, but that ref is a lobster case. That and no cushion case speedsonic I can find had a mirror dial. Is someone just trying to pass off a frankenwatch as NOS?

Daini King Seiko purchase attempt #2. I just won an auction for a 5256 (pic related), this time directly from Japan. My first attempt (on Ebay) was an over-polished 5246-6010 that I couldn't get to run better than -15 sec/day, even after more than $200 in service fees and replacing the balance assembly with an NOS one. Ended up flipping it at a loss. Fingers crossed on this one.

You paid considerably more than I would have, but from the pics the case appears to be entirely unpolished, which is a real plus.

As long as the movement isn't fucked, it should work out well for you. Make sure you take it to a vintage watch expert for service, and FYI you can replace the crystal with a generic sapphire crystal if you want (I did on mine).

I loved the Tissot, it felt so nice. Loved automatic too. Unfortunately cannot afford it now. Would go up to perhaps $350 USD.

The design is certainly something that would appeal to the mainstream.
Mainstream appeal, does not mean that everybody can afford it, nor can justify that much money on a watch, it simply means it appeals to the mainstream.
My best guess is that, of all the somewhat high-end watches, NOMOS would be one of the brands with the highest likability in a mainstream section of the population.

Today I have been gifted an Amphibia from my gfs mothers partner. Needless to say I won't turn down a free watch.

It seems to be holding good time, but is missing the lume on the minute hand and has a double dot indice on the 2 mark, I'm guessing that's an error.

I'm not sure on the date but I I'm guessing earlier 90s? Maybe late 80s? Did all Vostoks pre 1991 have CCCP written on them or are there some exceptions?

I got this one piece leather strap off Etsy and it's by far my favorite strap I've tried so far. The original metal bracelet is a bitch as my wrist swells up and then deflates like a bitch throughout the day, making it perpetually uncomfortable with no solution, and NATO straps make it ride too high on the wrist.

This is a nice, soft leather that keeps the watch tucked down onto the flat of my wrist and it gives Explorer II a slightly more dressy vibe (or at least tones down the "sportyness") with it's rich burgundy color.

Why do people hate Invicta?

They produce a $100 watch with a seiko movement that's accurate to 2 seconds a day, manual winds and is hackable.

I use it as a benchmark. Every watch that costs $100 should be this good or better. And a lot of $100 watches come up short.

There's watches that cost 3 times as much without hacking and watches that cost 10 times as much that have the same or worse timing stats over 24 hours.
