Could AMD just make a CPU that works on Intel motherboards?
>>58997932
If only Intel told them how their mobos work.
>>58997951
Tell that to Cyrex

That's how they started their business. THey originally just produced Intel designed CPUs.
The AM486 DX-00 series was the first line of CPU's that AMD released that was actually developed by AMD in house, but still ran on Intel's chipset and socket.
The AMD K6 was the first line of processors built by AMD to run on an AMD designed chipset. By now there is too much disparity between the two companies for AMD to make an Intel socket compatible product.

>K6
typo. Meant K5
here's my DX40.

Neat

Fun fact. The DX-40 was an architecture behind Intel's 586 line, and the IPC was not as good, but since it clocked so much higher (Intel was stuck at 25MHz on their 586), and cost so much less, it outperformed the 586 by quite a bit, and was the chip of choice for enthusiasts.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the fun fact!
>>58997952
You mean Cyrix, faggot

Ah whoops didn't meant to post that gif sorry

That was my first CPU that I learned C and Assembly on
