Perl is very widely used in silicon valley, dunno if it could really be your only skill though.
The last perl scripter I worked with was also a linux administrator, he does devops with ruby now.
5 or 6?

If you want to maintain old systems and you already know another language then go ahead and learn Perl. Otherwise learn Ruby. It's like Perl if it didn't suck.
Perl is only used for legacy shit.
Every other scripting language under the sun has replaced it, otherwise.
>>58981791
Yeah I think you're right, I should probably focus on ruby instead.
It's just that I personally like Perl (I'm not joking)
>>58981820
Same. It has its charm. But Ruby has honestly replaced it for me as the go-to scripting language since it's even comfier.
I'm currently learning Rails, but I'm also considering learning Catalyst in the future. It actually looks pretty cool.

Of course you are Pajeet, seeing as it's the only thing Ruby's useful for

Perl is great for linux stuff
When I interviewed for a sys engineer position at Intel they asked if I knew Perl and when I said no they said I'd need to learn it if I was hired.
