Windows 8/8.1 is when they started tacking on the half-assed metro shit, atleast the windows 10 ui makes some type of sense. At the time Windows 7 was still better, even though Windows 8.1 did have some good kernel/under the hood optimizations

I'm not stranger to that horrid mess that was the start screen, Server 2012 had it even which I just used classic shell for that. Its just bad that you have to install some 3rd party bullshit to make it usable out of the box
