The only Xiaomi thing I've had is a wristband and it didn't work with my phone so I can't really form an opinion on any of their products.

It has a known backdoor, same with most chink phones. I would not use one. Never use a router or modem from Xiaomi either, I can bet money that they have a backdoor also.

I dont have a phone, but a Xiaomi router, scale, tablet, camera and Miband, so for me blocking my home wifi was enough.

I simple installed a Pi Hole and added the most requested Xiaomi servers to the blacklist. (Most are called by the router itself)
