any irc /g/ is using?
Yes
But I won't tell you fags about them
Discord's quickly phasing out the IRC communities which were lingering up until last year.
Of course secretly all sorts of web chats and in-game chats runs off of IRC, but I know you mean manual connections.
yup
talking on irc right now

any known public server? or private?
>>58955373
>any known public server?
Rizon
>irc
>1000 people in channel
>everyone is idle
>everyone has a pet bot
>user says something
>user is banned
>the only talk appears to be from mods who know each other
it's pretty good
>>58955413
>nostalgia
>>58955282
Yes but only to play idlerpg
>>58955282
just when I thought xkcd couldn't get anymore cringe.
>>58955436
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>58955282
>xkcd

W-what's "butt-plugs1"? and dare I ask recursively?
Only recently got into IRC, but sadly Discord is starting to cut into the community that I'm in and splitting people apart between either IRC or Discord. Still going to stick to it.
>>58956055
The community I'm in is in both IRC and Discord, though IRC is still used more.
>>58956325
Discord gets more attention now, so there's also a severely reduced influx of newcomers. Not a big fan of Discord though, to be completely honest. Servers tend to get really clogged and it lacks the simplicity of the IRC channels.
>>58956493
i just opened a new irc server, any interest of joining ?
>>58956526
A channel or a server? Still though, what do you intend to have it about, or at least what topics/types of discussion?
>>58956556
A server, topics all about technologies but main focus on computer science
>>58955282
I only use IRC to download ebooks.
>>58956585
i will give it a go
>>58956612
irc.thecout.com:6697 ssl enabled

>>58956585

>>58956638

Feel free to join from the web client or through your own client :3
>>58956660
op here, is that link sfw? just asking
>>58956688
Of course! Don't go to our board if you want it to stay that way!!
>>58956709
haha ok
IRC is really only remotely safe if you're on a server with people you know and trust.
Its also about as secure as shouting your messages in a crowded mall.
>>58956844
my server is TLS secured

IRC strutting its 90%+ ban rate, hilariously in any year after 2000 it's all about "oh come over to ours" invitations so you can again be banned. irc mods basically think that banning is the only method of communication
>>58955344
pretty much. discord is eating into gaming irc networks (quakenet etc). slack is into into tech networks.
it's been a good couple of decades but the internet sadly just got shittier again.
>>58955413
>>58957293
if it happens everywhere you go then you're probably a dipshit
just a heads up for you
>>58955282
Of course.
>>58955282
<SomeLamer> what's the difference between chattr and chmod?
<SomeGuru> SomeLamer: man chattr > 1; man chmod > 2; diff -u 1 2 | less
-- Seen on #linux on irc
>>58957344
Also equally as likely, they've been repeating wrong, stupid bullshit for nearly one and a half decades and would ban anyone who happens to live in reality and disagree with them.
#/g/ftp on rizon
>>58957390
Very likely also that owners of channels make mods of schizophrenics who then go on a powertrip.
>>58955282
Freenode, Rizon
>>58955344
lol, keep dreaming

this

I hope discord can kill slack
I like it's interface a lot more, and account management is easier. I have two emails for college and I have to remember the signup for each one and it's fucking stupid
>>58955344
Gtfo of my board normie.
>>58955344
>proprietary software
shiggy diggy
All this discord shilling. IRC like punk will never die.
Why bother
Slack is better for teams, discord for private groups, and bbs for public posting
>>58957645
Slack is more oriented around teams while discord is marketed towards the "gamer" audience.
Slack won't die out any time soon.
have fun joining, shutting the fuck up, saying hi and then getting banned.
>>58957528
>>58957585
I must say I liked it better when they had the FTP password in the channel's topic and changed it monthly. I don't need write access to your FTP, I just want to get free stuff!
>>58955413
>go to big channels
>is shocked they are shit
gee, who would have thunk?
>>58955436
whats cringey about this particular comic
/me slaps you around a bit with a large trout
#lovefort @ rizon
>>58957293
What channels? I've only ever been "banned" as a joke.
