Why the fuck is cellphone service so expensive in the USA?
>>
>>58954463
You're paying for the phone. You can get $30 dumb phones at Walmart with prepaid plans.
>>
>>58954463
WOW. You pay the same as Australia. Maybe even a bit more.

Jewish bankers syphoning wealth from the lower class using a command economy masquerading as a free market. Really just a result of a backwards pseudo feudalism political structure mixed with propaganda and massive amounts of bread and circus.
>>

I pay 10 euros for 20 GB. And I still think it is not enough
>>
>UNLIMITED
It's not really unlimited, is it?
>>
Because the population (and thus the infrastructure) is so spread out. It takes an ass load of money to spread infrastructure over 3.7 million square miles of territory. Same reason everything is so damn expensive in Australia.
>>
It shouldn't cost very much when your entire country can be covered by three cell towers.

Freedom isn't free, which is why we have to pay more for stuff.
>>
4.90€ for unlimited data here.

Verizon's was truly unlimited, then they axed it except for people who grandfathered in their old plans, now Verizon supposedly has unlimited again

Germany has truly unlimited LTE now, where you can burn through Terabytes if you want.
Only 199 EUR / month in a 2 year binding contract :^)

Surely then the price of cell service in Sweden and Latvia and other less-densely-populated-but-still-Western-countries is higher.
No?

Those plans don't include the phone.

They're high because of FCC not giving a fuck, and deregulation.

Yet all of these countries have lower mobile service subscription costs.

Amazing.

Heavily regulated socialist capitalism because corporations tend to be greedy fucks who do everything legal to squeeze the last dime out of the sheeple. If there were no consequences for selling cars that explode spontaneously, and if it meant they'd still make more profit, they would do it in a heartbeat.

Its greed by the few large corporations. Simple as that. There are reasons that AT&T and Verizon are often on the top of the most disliked companies year after year. Same with ISPs such as Comcast and TWC.

I pay 22Euros for my unlimited mobile internet.
>>
>>58954573

No they don't.

I just finally let go of my grandfathered unlimited plan last month (two lines). Couldn't justify cost after they jacked up the price for the data portion of the bill.

Went with 15GB shared and it reduced my bill by $70 a month. It's still stupidly expensive though.
>>
>>58954961
Yes, they do.

The data portion was for line access fees. Overages (200GB+) caused a service termination on old UDP.

>>58954573
>>58954704
New Unlimited is truly unlimited for a phone, but will deprioritize after 22GB (BGR, USAToday). Mobile hotspot is 10GB high-speed, 3G afterwords.

Of course, like all carriers, they reserve the right to terminate for "excessive usage" whenever they like.

>>58954657
No, you're full of shit, you fucking meatball.

USA
>phone companies mostly descended of monopolies that got gradually deregulated, never owned by the federal government
>a well regulated FCC that holds auctions to sell spectrum for the networks
>private companies having to construct towers
>private companies having to lay the pipe

Sweden
>built up from public investment
>exploited by multinationals
>private companies maintain existing infrastructure and only upgrade by consumer demand or required by law

It's fucking apples to oranges, kiddo. You can get coverage in rural parts of the United States fairly easily, unless you're in places like Wyoming where no one lives.

So with that in mind, are you enjoying your lack of coverage in the swamp?
>>
The US is huge and not very densely populated in most areas. They have to install a lot more towers to cover the same number of people compared to Europe.
>>
>>58955183

Ok, I see this is a new plan that wasn't available last month. But guess what, I'm glad I didn't wait any longer than I did. Just went on Verizon's site to look at the new plan and it says my 23% employer discount doesn't apply to the new unlimited plan.

My bill would go up $40 if I switched to "unlimited". Looks like my bill would go up even if I downgraded to 8GB shared with the new plan pricing. They can eat a fat dick.
>>
>>58954748
Most people live in a few areas in Sweden, the population isn't spread out evenly.
>>
>>58954463
Forget all the arguments about the price. For what I am really amazed is how you can only get one-fucking-GB of data. In 2017.

rest are 20gb Voda plans that go down to 13 or so because it's a promo that ends in April. Fuck us, right?
>>
>>58954691
>>I thought deregulation is in the best interest of the American customer!?
It is when that actually fosters competition. The problem with mobile service is that people are generally too lazy to shop around and force providers to compete on price and service. If you talk to normies, ask them if they've switched providers for a better deal. Or told a sales rep from their provider that they're out the door if they don't get a better price. 99% of them are like "Nah, can't be bothered, too much hassle, it's all the same, it costs what it costs"

A consumer that doesn't care is a consumer that will be ruthlessly exploited, and there's nothing any regulator can do about it.

>>58954829
>>So both capitalism and communism are good in theory but fall on their face.
>>58954849
>Heavily regulated socialist capitalism
Then you just get greedy politicians milking people instead of greedy corporations. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.
>>
>>58954573
And the "grandfather" was limited to the phone you signed up with. So 3g aka worthless for $100 that they were charging back then.
>>
>>58955975

What? I had unlimited for nearly 10 years; long before 4g existed. I changed phones three times after unlimited got axed. Activated a used HTC M8 this time last year.
