it's widely used in business when you don't want to run 110V to an AP on a beam in the middle of the ceiling of a warehouse or in the middle of a drop ceiling.
also even if you need it later you can always get an inline PoE injector.
Home is a strange use case since building/electrical code where I am specifies minimal outlet coverage but I could see it being used here and there or if you have an extreme hatred of wall warts.
