I've got a MicroServer.
What can I do with it?
Make a NAS
Host a website or game server or something
i dont fuckin know, why did you get it
you can do everything!
>you can't do anything.
>>58948087
Sell it.
>>58948087
Buy some ECC RAm and run FreeNAS.
You can use it as a server.
>>58948087
shove it up your ass

da fuck he need ecc ram for? He's hardily running mission critical software.. it's a fucking microserver.. for the tiny business/hobiest. E fucking CC..
DO what most people do.. use it as a nas.
Currently have debian on it headless, in a different town. I connect via ssh and plex. Stick transmission on there and add torrents from your phone anywhere in the world. Or use it as a backup server/mail sevrer/ etc etc. the possibilities are endless.

MicroServer stuff

You made me remember borderline agents have my ODROID kept since Jnaury. fml
>>58948775
These HP microservers support ECC RAM. If you enjoy your data and use ZFS, you might as well use it
>>58948775
ECC is highly recommended for ZFS
Serve tiny web pages.
>>58948861
kek
Turn it into a bitcoin miner
>>58948087
Install Sonarr, Plex for media-consuming-botnet and Seafile on it for muh cloud
>>58948087
Have you ever masterbated?

Only your dreams keep you from finding what is out there, OP
>>58948087
nfsd
mpd + icecast
dlna for your smart tv/console
get a bunch of cheap SoCs and build your own smart home with a web interface you can control remotely
get a ddns, run a webserver, put up a website, post the URL anywhere public, wait for the barrage of Chinese HTTP crawlers followed by attempts to bruteforce root password over SSH
>>58948087
host a loli website
>>58948551
This is a viable option that you should seriously consider.
>>58948087
Why does that thing have network ports that are only accessible by opening a plastic door on the front?
>>58948087
Install XPEnology if you're mentally incapable or don't have the budget nor the time to initially invest in FreeNAS.
Otherwise Buy more ECC ram and install FreeNAS.
>>58948775
>HP Microserver user here with ZFS
And jesus christ have I suffered from data loss due to bitrot.
>>58950313
That is what you get for storing your data on spinning rust.
>>58949999
Hear the quads, OP.
>>58950359
Actually the actual data corruption started on a SSD.
>>58948087
put it back in the trashcan, where you got it from
You could use it as a server
Unless for some reason you want to run Windows, because HP doesn't provide drivers anymore unless you're a paying customer
>>58948713
A tor exit node. with many storage drives...
You know a Raspberry Pi is a much cheaper alternative.
>SWAT
Just forward traffic to a VPN.
>just run it on a a VPS
I don't trust VPS's to not log incoming traffic That's why at one point it should be your home connection.
>>58950265
Those are just the frame of each hard drive rack slot dumbass
I have one that runs openmediaserver, dont do plex or anything similar, it wont have the horsepower
>>58950313
Why is it that bitrot only seems to affect people who use ZFS/other things supposed to stop bitrot?
Obviously it's just because only you guys actually notice it, but I hardly ever have files go bad on me.
>Now I'm gonna look for an old file and it's gonna be completely fucked.
Great.
>>58948087
Is pic related the one you got? Should have gotten a gen8.
>>58948997
Download bitcoin-core and run a bitcoin full node to support the network
>>58948087
Host a minecraft server open up for donations
>>58954483
This.
>>58948087
those olders are pretty shitty with amd turions.
is that a n36l or n40l?
Run a freenas/nas4free box with ecc ram, that's your best choice. I have one and it's okayish, but gen8 is much better with xeon e3 and 16gib ram
@58956085
It's the N40L with the Turion II @ 1.5GHz and 4GB of RAM
>>58954383
Bitrot is a meme anyway.
I went to look at the oldest files on my server, which happen to be porn with files created in May 1997. They have been copied through a dozen drives as I've upgraded my server over the years, from ext2, ext3 to ext4 and now btrfs. And yes, everything works. Couldn't find a single one that was fucked.
>>58948087
Watch your porn from any room in the house.
>>58948087
>What can I do with it?
This is probably something you should have asked yourself before obtaining it.
>>58948087
what is the cpu? if it's not shit, use plex
>>58948775
Nice blog post you flamboyant homosex
>>58950313
>Read backup off single external drive with no redundancy and already 7 checksum errors only 1TB in.
The files are all still executable, thank god.
>>58954383
>Why is it that bitrot only seems to affect people who use ZFS/other things supposed to stop bitrot?
ZFS has a good terminal interface for showing you which files were flipped. And people who run it without parity will run into those issues on a regular basis.
You can then experiment in depth with them to see how bad said damage is once it's alerted you.
Bitrot rarely goes unnoticed under ZFS whereas a normal system you access like 30% of your FS over a period of a year and only notice a single file which failed to read and copy to your flash drive.
>>58948087
Insert your micropenis in it.
>>58956600
>Bitrot is a meme anyway
>i no moar then enterprise professionals
I use mine for Plex!

>>58958690

:^)
I use it to store md5deep'd backups from my nas which has no ECC.
So far, no bitrot. But I have lost plenty of data through not backing shit up or deleting the wrong backups.
>>58956600
>Bitrot is a meme
No it isn't mongoloid, it's literally physics destroying hardrives. Tape is the best way to archive things but it costs a fortune.
>>58948087
Use it to create an archive and backup of mudkips plz
