tech-illerate retard here. why a kernel called the kernel? in Linear Algebra the kernel is the set of vectors that map a particular linear transformation to zero. Is this related i any way, shape, or form the the computer definition in theory, form, or function?

Stupid questions thread. And no. Also who is this semen demon?
no
The kernel is called the kernel because it is the "central, most important part" of the OS, which is the definition of the word "kernel". It is the interface between the hardware and programs/other OS components.

Congratulations, you just did someone's homework for free.

i asked why it's called the kernel, not "what is the kernel". I'm 27 and out of school. Just wondered about it from a math perspective since the mathematical def has been around long before the concept of modern computing

Nana Ogura btw famalam. A++ bitch
Etymologically speaking, it's my understanding that kernel is a modernization of cyrnel (Old English, meaning seed; it's also the word that corn "stems" from, if you'll forgive the pun).
Basically its what the rest of the system grows from.

Kill yourself you retarded brainlet.

>butthurt /g/entooman thinks he can out math a math major
Again, why was it called the kernel? is it because the null space forms some kind of primitive strucuture for the span of a linear map and therefore the "kernel" is the set of most basic OS elements that conduct the rest of the programs and structures?
It's a legitimate question of etymology. No need to get butthurt.

yup and she has a nice rack and squirts like fountain

It's been ages but I recall that a map like a homorophism is almost fully described by the kernel. One of the isomorphism theorems.
It's named after the Colonel.
She is cute as fuck
