used to be 5/5 breddy gud the last time I used it, but now that it's an Atlassian product, I refuse to touch it with a 10-foot barge pole

I've used it on my previous work. We had switched to Slack later and I find it to be better.

What does it have over Slack or MS Teams?

Someone is butthurt their manager likes Jira too much.

Slack is a better messenger, mattermost is the best since you get to own your data. Hipchat needs to stop releasing smileys and support hidpi already.

This fucking piece of shit randomly crashes when switching keyboard layouts, freezes or stops receiving messages when toggling VPNs and has shitty integration even with Atlassian's own products.
Semi-official company policy has us just turning it off and on again daily so we can at least get shit done without someone important missing messages and failing to do their part when deploying stuff.

I disagree. My previous employer used
hipchat and had zero difficulty with it using mac/windows/*nix and 3 separate VPNs

I'd say Rocket.Chat is better than Mattermost from a user's standpoint. Unfortunately, it uses a shitton of RAM and good chunk of CPU time on both server and the client.

hipchat is garbage. a company doesn't have to use it just because it's packaged with good shit.
