Why did FOSS smartphone OS never take off?
>>58936452
because Mozilla is a shitty company full of shitty devs, just use Android Open Source Project
>>58936452
>just use Android Open Source Project
um, ok?
>>58936452
Because the vast majority of smartphone users don't give a fuck about FOSS' philosophy and there's already AOSP, why fragmentize things?
because freetard neckbeards are incapable of writing cohesive software
And also the Jews keep getting their slimy paws in open source projects and fucking them over
see SailfishOS

It released on really shit hardware in an already saturated market.
No whatsapp was unforgivable

Every day, I wake up and wish Firefox OS did take off.
Not because I like it. Fuck no. But because it gave the retarded half of Mozilla's employees something to do. Now everyone's back working on Firefox, doing such revolutionary things as destroying the extension ecosystem.
So much of the tech industry hasn't learned the lesson yet: stop saying "it's gonna be great."
It's either great already or it's not worth selling. Sorry if that's not compatible with the FOSS philosophy but hardware is a business.
I think Mozilla will eventually revisit it after reworking Gecko. Mozilla is probably putting it off in favor of Firefox

Android is too big

Exactly. It's over.

the little budget it had was cut

The market was already sealed up at that point. Even Windows Phone barely "survived."
