Are HTPC a meme?

with the advent of "smart" tvs they became mostly obsolete.

now all you need is a small NAS and a small android box if you don't already have such a botnet-tv.

Yeah pretty much this. I only have a PC hooked up to my TV for games, All my media is kept on a NAS that the TV connects to wirelessly.
>>
>>58927335
Nailed it.
>>

This.

I have a Plex server running with tons of media and just stream it all locally to my Nexus player now.
>>
>>58928582
I don't trust Plex because it's proprietary.
>>
>>58927092
Basically. You can replace one entirely with an Nvidia Shield if you're okay using Plex. That's what I do, I also have a Steam Link streaming games from what's basically become a gaming server to my TV.

HTPC builds are pretty much useless now.

depends on what you want to do.
>>
>>58927092
For most people but I like being able to use a PC on the TV and streaming a remote desktop is fucking annoying.
>>
>>58927092
windows media center was based, the cablecard tv tuners made it usable for normies. then they scrapped the whole thing. lol.
>>
>>58931367
Gotta make space for the botnet, dontcha know
>>
>>58931367
I'm still using Windows 7 solely for for that reason. WMC is the only piece of software that actually works for TV tuners.
>>
>>58931491
I use MythTV on ubuntu but setting that shit up is really annoying.
>>
>>58931507
I've tried. It refuses to work. Spent fucking hours just to get any semblance of functionality. I never even had to configure WMC at all.
>>
>>58931349
This. Having an actual computer hooked up is top comfy.
