How many of you guys use this program?
What do you think about it?

I discovered it a moment ago and am trying it right now. Everything looks a bit weird but I am sure I just need to get used to it.
>>
I used it on my laptop for awhile to prevent me from going fucking blind at night but apparently it does a bunch of sketchy data collection
>>
>>58923729

Really? If true this would make me stop using it.

Use redshift. Takes one minute to figure out the command you need to start it at the right setting, then set the command to automatically run when logging in.

I did, and never had to actually be aware that it exists anymore. GUI is good, but you don't need a GUI.

>>
>>58923696
I use Redshift which is basically the same thing on Linux. I used f.lux in the past. They're both great.

RS seems more "noticeable" but with both of them, if you're using it and set it to automatically adjust according to the time of day then you don't notice it at all. In fact, when I turn it off I can't imagine how the fuck I used to use my monitor without it. Everything is so fucking blue and blinding.

>>58923786
Wow it's fucking nothing.
>>
>>58932424
I couldn't get used to it, don't know why. I guess it takes a few days. It also messed with everything, including videos.

this desu

Also RS is more 'noticeable' because its defaults are 5500/3500 and flux's are 6500/4500 or something I think.

>>
>>58932424
can you share your redshift config?
>>
>>58934745
Do you eventually get used to the redness of the screen? I want to use it but I feel like I will never get used to it. Also makes videos look weird.
>>
>>58932751
>It also messed with everything, including videos
Yeah, it can be annoying when you're watching something and doing imagework. RS and Flux could both do with an auto off option when X program runs.

>>58935460
I just use the default settings.

>>58935801
It's always going to look a bit "off", sites like 4chan don't stand out as much because of the blue but whites and grays really do, taking on a very dinged look.

Just try it, anon. It'll do you good. If not, there's always Stylish to help your eyes, I suppose.
>>
Yeah, I use it. It's mostly great but when it kicks on while you're playing a game it's a bit annoying.
>>
>>58923742

There is no GUI. You have an indicator and then you can make a redshift.conf file in .config to configure stuff to your heart's content. The documentation is on the devs' website.
>>
>>58923786
This is a perfectly normal and safe privacy policy. Flux uses geolocalization, there is nothing wrong on that.

Right when I posted it, I saw the post above me. It was in the AUR.
>>
>>58923696
I edited the registry to make it even darker, 1000K on day and night. That plus blackout curtains = god-tier sleep. Feels like living in a cave.

If you're a night shift worker or want it to be darker earlier it can be annoying to have to change your time zone to something on the other side of the world. They should just let you pick a number to set it to.

>>
>>58940876
I'm not afraid of the command line
It's just fucking stupid to have to spend 5 minutes reading a man page just to adjust the final color temp and how long it takes to adjust the colors
this shit is the reason why linux will never be relevant outside of servers.
and if a gui didn't take up resources every server would have one.
>>
>>58939385
What are you even talking about.
>>
>>58935801
I've been using it for a while now and never notice it anymore. In fact quite the opposite, I find the regular screen impossible to use at night because of how ridiculously overpowering it is.
>>
>>58940503
I don't understand. I literally just ran "sudo dnf install redshift", double-clicked the icon and it ran using predefined settings. It werks, I don't care about configuring it.

I imagine the result will be the same if you're using Ubuntu. If the problem is that you're using some hipster distro that doesn't have it in its repos then you should be enough of a cool kid to figure out how to set it up.
>>
Oh wait, I didn't realize that you were a Winbabby. Maybe it'll work in Ubuntu on Windows? Kek.
>>
I've been using redshift for over a year now because I work late into the evening every weekday, I love it. Sometimes I'll kill the process before shutting down for the night just to see the difference, and it's startling how blinding everything looks when you turn redshift off. You don't even notice it while it's running.
