Use redshift. Takes one minute to figure out the command you need to start it at the right setting, then set the command to automatically run when logging in.

I did, and never had to actually be aware that it exists anymore. GUI is good, but you don't need a GUI.

I've been using redshift for over a year now because I work late into the evening every weekday, I love it. Sometimes I'll kill the process before shutting down for the night just to see the difference, and it's startling how blinding everything looks when you turn redshift off. You don't even notice it while it's running.
