This HDD stopped working 2 years ago, i visited a thread made a while ago and noticed that shitgate released new firmwares, i updated the firmware and the drive is booting again, but these numbers are really impressive.. Sadly windows tools cant format the drive.

Well shit, after almost 3 years without using this drive looks like its working now, thank anon who showed me the print of his drive working with other firmware, i lost about 1.8TB of data, but at least now i have a drive "fully" functional again.

Pic related of the formated drive.

What firmware are you running now?
I should probably do the same very soon then.
>>
how does one flash their HDD firmware?

from within the OS or with a interfaced microcontroller??
>>
>>58911367
Using an infrared remote, you carefully aim it at the hdd led, then start tapping out the sequence in binary.
>>
also try and format with gparted

remake the partition tables to msdos if you dont have bios support for gpt

if it doesnt write you might need to force mount it as r/w while logged in root

if it still wont format then the drive is on the way out
>>
>>58911370
-_-
>>
>>58911140
id also like to note that the HDD software youre using cant be trusted because as you see it doesnt have much data to base it from

if you had logs for that drive for the past 2-3 years you would be able to judge but atm it looks like its not in good shape at all despite having any previous data
>>
>>58911379
Are you stupid? OP is clearly using Botnet 10.
>>
>>58911416
i can see that.

gparted can be loaded from just a usb or dvd as a stand alone O/S

you can choose a deb or ubuntu base

Gparted is a graphical drive partitioning manager

it will give you alot more capabilites with a messed up drive

I had a 1tb seagate that suddently started doing the same thing until it shitted itself. Later I learned about the firmware update but I couldn't get it recognized anymore. It does not even show up in the bios. Lost a shitload of chinese cartoons.
>>
>>58911330
yup, it was you who posted the print in the other thread, i'm running CC4H firmware.
>>
>>58911469
In my case i lost games, porn, chinese cartoons and lots of data which i'll never found again.

Now i have 2 shitgates drives but i'm gonna replace them soon, probably by an WD Drive.

Making a Low Level format using Lowvel, its erasing the drive at +100mb/s :^)

Why aren't you using the manufacturer's diagnostic to do a full examination of the drive? No other tool matters but the one the drive manufacturer has for that purpose so stop being a bonehead and use the proper tool for the job.

When it's done, wipe the drive using that same manufacturer's tool and then recheck as it can fix some of the bad sector issues and make it useful again.

If it really has 39K+ bad sectors then yes it's time to consider looking at getting a new drive. But consider that it's got a few trillion sectors on it and only a tiny tiny amount have gone bad. If you do a full sector scan of the entire drive and find that all the "bad" sectors are in one specific area you can partition that area away and not use it - if they're spread all over the drive equally then yeah, look at getting a new one.

>people that have drives with trillions of sectors and a few thousand going bad means toss the drive
>don't waste the hardware for a literal drop of bad sectors in a fucking ocean of them
>>
>>58911884

You can't low level format a hard drive anymore, that shit hasn't worked for 15+ years now, it's just a fucking format tool and once again you should ONLY USE THE MANUFACTURER'S TOOLS FOR THAT KIND OF STUFF.

Third-party software cannot be fucking trusted for accuracy, only the software provided by the maker of the hard drive is truly useful.

Case in point, image provided.

This Hitachi/HGST has no errors of any kind per the manufacturer's diagnostic but using third-party tools it says it's got 32 MILLION bad sectors and it actually has none, not one fucking bad sector.

S.M.A.R.T. status cannot be trusted, ever. The errors listed simply do not exist, and I've done multiple checks with the IBM/Hitachi DFT including quick/short/long/extended and three full zero wipes using that tool and rechecked and every fucking time the disposition code is 0x00 meaning the drive has no errors at all and I trust that hence me still using it.

S.M.A.R.T. causes more problems than it's worth, and third-party tools like HDTune don't help - if you're using a cracked version of HDTune (I'm actually not, go figure) it will misreport problems with the drive constantly - mine is a paid for version I've had for years now but it still shows errors that don't actually exist.

Also done full scans and wipes using MHDD and Victoria and again, it has no actual current problems or even one bad sector.
>>
>>58911906
none program was able to write on the hard drive, not even hdd tune, if i try write something on it my windows explorer crashes and freeze all my system.
I've used this software to wipe an 64GB SD Card in the past and now my SD is working better than before, and now i dont have an pendrive to use seagate tools via DOS, this was the only software which is writing on the drive atm, so that's the only way to do a low level format now.

>>58911937
CrystalDisk shows that my drive has ~9400 bad sectors, after starting the low level format this number decreased to ~7000.

What do then? Seagate tools detect "no errors" on another drives, even though it shows the same parameters that CrystalDisk shows. (like my ST500LM002 with the "recalibratio retry count error" at number 127.
