Because some people have multiple use scenarios. Some times I keep my triple monitors landscape for workflow when working in video editing and researching. Also when playing games at 21:9, or I may have 1 monitor portrait while doing research/reading pdfs or mangos and have the other 2 landscape for movies and web browsing. Lastly, I can flip them all portrait for eyefinity. The borders are a pain in the ass, but I bought these monitors years ago. I wanted 144hz and there weren't many options at that time. It triggers my autism that 16:9 is the standard aspect ratio for monitors nowadays, it literally only exists for watching movies on and if you're going to watch movies all the time then get a fucking TV which is made for watching movies on and will be a hundred times more enjoyable than watching on a small-ass computer monitor.

16:10 should be the standard aspect ratio with 3:2 and 4:3 as alternatives for more square aspect ratios, and if you want 16:9 then go buy a TV and stop being a faggot

I wanted to buy a second monitor, specifically IPS for muh colors.

Found an Acer 24" that seems alright, although the description varies between IPS, LED and IPS + LED backlight.

Well if you're using the analog signals anyway it doesn't matter much whether you run them through the analog pins in DVI or use VGA.

On the other hand if your monitor can accept digital input you'd be a fool to trade it for analog.

Just wondering because the monitor only came with a piece of shit vga to vga cable but I managed to find an adapter in my graphics card box.

The blacks are worse than on my older LED monitor so I was wondering if it's the cable or something.

The second monitor is angled at like 45 degrees because it only rotates one way and even though it can be viewed perfectly fine straight on or from above the horizontal, below the horizontal it might as well be turned off

A billion keks. Quality post though. The reason they have one monitor is probably because they need the desk space for papers and office supplies and stuff. Just speaking from experience there. Also the defaults for Ubuntu are fine for getting work done. I have all my fancy autistic shit at home but at work I keep one 4:3 17 inch Dell monitor, one plain IBM keyboard, and my computer runs Lubuntu with no ricing.
