Immediately figure out how you can get from the help desk to something better, a server team, app team, just get a plan and do it. Talk to your manager and ask them how to get there. Otherwise you will be stuck in that position for ever.

This is pretty sadly accurate. Get used to either remoting into peoples stations or walking to their desks because they will always give you wrong info or just not be capable of clicking 2 things on their own.

Trust me I learned that quick enough. The amount of times I've had to remote in and click a single button or even remote in to type someones username because they didn't know that certain field was case sensitive is amazing. Like other people in thread said, look to move up. Start researching other parts of the IT field and also ask whenever you can to help with other projects.

I'm just doing helpdesk to get some experience. Pay is pretty good, so I think I'll stick around for 2 years at most. Then I'll see if I can get promoted to a net admin position or I'll jump ship
