Welcome to the /g/ meta thread. Here, we discuss ways we can make /g/ great again.

>this is against the rules
See https://desuarchive.org/qa/thread/675371/#677151
Hiro said we are allowed one meta thread per board.

How do you think we can MGGA? Proposals:
-Half the board is becoming generals, taking up space for potential threads. We can overcome this by placing a limit on the number of generals allowed at a time.
-Operating system war threads provide no actual content, and just end up being people throwing shit at each other. Ban them.
-There are currently four threads about TempleOS and Terry Davis. We need to limit it to one at a time, or /tosg/.
-Tech support threads still pop up every hour. Instead of helping people. we need to link them to /sqt/.
-The sticky doesn't contain enough information. If we also added infograpics like pic related, it could prevent unnecesarry posts.

What do you think?
>>
>>58905860
I agree with banning the number of generals. Some of them are way too specific, and we could combine several into one.
>>
>>58905901
>>58905860
But wont that just make more spam threads?

That implies people who just came here check for generals

Kill the sticky. Stallman is a communist piece of shit.

What if we replaced Stallman with another /g/ idol like Terry? There was already a vote on this, although it was probably rigged by Terry's followers.

But this is different. Those threads are recreated every single day. I have trouble believing this will become a constant thread.

Fuck hardware or buying threads. Literally just open your search bar and go to any modern site to find reviews on hardware you're interested in.

Headphone threads are worthless

Spec threads are literally screenshots of text representing hardware. Aka worthless

Fetch threads are slightly more interesting but that's not saying much. Worthless

Guts threads are dumber than everything I've mentioned so far. Just pictures of computer components. Worthless

The only good generals are the programming and web dev ones. The Linux general is okay in theory but it turns into people starting flame wars instantly.

But the most important thing to remember about my complaints is I really hate consumer threads bc there are literally hundreds of websites devoted to reviewing and comparing products.

Chink shit thread is the definition of consumerism. How is a thread filled with knockoff recommendations related to technology? Should we also have an eBay thread too for getting good deals?
>>

>Chink shit thread is the definition of consumerism. How is a thread filled with knockoff recommendations related to technology? Should we also have an eBay thread too for getting good deals?
kek, that is basically what /tpg/ is now. There truly is a godafwul general for everything
>>
>>58905860
i would like this to happen but i do not think it will happen. people are not interested in conversation, well not enough people are. remember /nsg/
>>
I want the whole board to be generals.
The discussion within them is of much higher quality than "RATE MY BUILD THREAD #98928392832" and GPU shitpost thread #9819829389328932
>>
The rules are fine. They do not need to change. If you don't like a thread, blame the person who started it.
>Waaah waaaah this thread is a general
So?
>Waaah waaah they're discussing things that don't interest me
Then don't read those threads. If that leaves you with no threads to read, either start a good thread or stop coming here.

Personally, the only changes I would like to see on /g/ are:
>Less whinging about Pajeets
>Only one browser b8 thread at a time (yes, another general!)
>More talk about hardware jobs and less talk about programming
>A general for certifications, getting IT jobs, etc, but only if people are going to post in it
>Less b8 all round
>No more "I want to buy headphones but I am entitled to only the finest headphones so tell me what headphones are objectively best for muh gaymen even though we all know that headphones of a similar price are going to be borderline-indistinguishable in quality" cancer
>OP needs to kys

If we can achieve all those, /g/ will be perfect.

I side with most posters on the thread count. HOWEVER, for the love of Stallman, don't just set such a command and control rule such as "Only X threads on TOPIC allowed"...

A poster should check the catalogue to see if his subject matter is already covered in a thread. If it is, post there. If a anyone sees a thread, whose subject is already sdiscussed in a separate thread, this newer thread should be reported/deleted.

And finally, implement global rule 4 both for OPs and for posts.
4. You should always elaborate on your opinions
rather than just spilling the soykaf.

E.g. pic related should be deleted instantly.

As much as everyone (especially mods/admins) against board split, /g/ could use a split to

-/g/ - Technology
-a consumer electronics board (phones, watches, portable media players etc)
-a computer customization board (hardware and sw wise customizations. Buttstation, desktops, homescreens, foobar skins etc.)
>>
>>58905860
If we could just make a containment board or general for the gaymen manchilds it would be enough. they are the absolute surce of consumeirism garbadge that only cares about muh gpu, muh RGB "insert anything here" and muh "help i cant run muh gaymes"
>>
>>58912746
I like the idea, there is a certain logic behind that solves many problems on both sides.
>>
>>58912746
Good idea, but that would turn one fast board into three slow ones
>>
>>58914592
That's not really a problem. An on-topic slow/medium speed board is not bad.

Also, /cc/ board could have extra features, like secondary file upload for a post for
-config/style file
-high resolution/uncompressed wallpaper
>>
>Half the board is becoming generals, taking up space for potential threads.
Yes
>We can overcome this by placing a limit on the number of generals allowed at a time.
That's a terrible implementation though, and will be broken constantly. I suggest permanently moving some of them, for example /ptg/ to /t/, while keeping all the consumerist shit in one thread.
>Operating system war threads provide no actual content, and just end up being people throwing shit at each other. Ban them.
Discussion should be allowed, though obvious spam should be dealt with. "Install gentoo" wasn't funny the first time, and I have no idea why the GNU/linux copypasta isn't in the wordfilter yet.

And while your at it, permaban that pedophile with his shitty MacOS posts. His posts are NSFW and he brings no proper arguments forward.
>There are currently four threads about TempleOS and Terry Davis. We need to limit it to one at a time, or /tosg/.
Agreed
>Tech support threads still pop up every hour. Instead of helping people. we need to link them to /sqt/.
I still don't get why this has become so commonplace over the last few years. If you manage to find /g/ you should be tec-literate enough to troubleshoot yourself. If not, fuck off.
>The sticky doesn't contain enough information. If we also added infograpics like pic related, it could prevent unnecesarry posts.
It's like that for every board, but yes, it is an issue, but boils down to the fact that mods are to uncooperative. It has been proposed multiple times already, but they never give a response.
>>
>>58915508
What about combining some generals, because some are about very specific things?
>>
Is Cyanogen a good phone OS in general?
My current phone keeps restarting and crashing so I'm thinking about rooting it and sticking another OS on it.
>>
>>58905860
Why there aren't rules on generals in the first place doesn't make much sense to me.

Why doesn't the administration outline rules for generals? Even a simple rule like "Don't make generals until they hit page 10" would keep the catalog a whole lot fresher.

We should also move /ptg/ to /t/, and we should move all the other "not technology" generals off as well.
>>
>>58915611
Forgot to mention that we should move /fglt/ and /sqt/ to /wsr/.
>>
>>58907630
I had no idea this cringey site existed
>>
>>58915621
moving sqt solves nothing. Fags would still shit up /g/ with their WAT R BEST LABTOB FOR $200 NEEDS TO RUN HAT FORTRESS 2 AND MEMECRAFT threads. It's a containment thread we create so /g/ doesn't turn into pure distilled shit, because does-it-for-free-man doesn't/not allowed to mercilessly delete support garbage.
>>
Ban Wintard and iphone threads and everything will be fine
>>
kill the cancer watch thread.
>>
>>58915574
There are certain topics that are very specific, talking about blatant consumerism is not and shouldn't be promoted nor tolerated.

If one where, for example, talking about smartphones in /spg/ on a place like /g/, I would expect people to be talking about price/performance ratio, compatibility with custom ROM's, if it has a SD slot, a removable battery or the fact that the bootloader is unlocked or not, NOT comparing the specs of obviously overpriced phones or talking about their looks.

I personally like how 8ch is doing it; there are 2 stickied threads: one for buying recommendations and one for support. Low quality "is X good?" threads are deleted.
>>
Imo ban all discussions about linux or create a containment board for them called /pedo/.

They are behaving on this board like the members of a cult who cannot accept any other OS unless it's part of their cult.

Such behaviour is antithetical to an actual interest in technology, it's just sectarian worship which stifles real debate on technology.

point still stands. should we tell newcomers to go out and buy a walmart laptop that will last 2 years, or something that, without exaggeration, will last beyond a decade?

The only two things that /g/ needs to be rid of are the constant AMD vs. Intel threads (how can you fags talk about this every day?), and the smartphone general (like amd vs. intel, there is only a limited amount of discourse which can be had on this topic)
