I'm actually chuckling; you guys really love wasting money, huh
>>
>No chinese BM-800 on the pic

Blue Anything is aids. You buy it, you are a nigger.

BM-800 a shit, though.
If you spend the money on a mixer/ interface, but cheap on the mic, what's the point?
>>
>>58900716
Can i get a review on this mic
>>
>>58901017
You can get a decent cheap interface from china too.

What the fuck does an average person need a $50 mic for?

Writing a guide that completely neglects 99% of use cases is pointless.
>>
>>58901058
>You can get a decent cheap interface from china too.

nope
you can get cheap and you can get decent but not both

>>58901077
99% of use case can get by just fine with a headset.

The USB section is for the autistic streamers that want something plug n' play to make themselves feel like they're special for having a standalone mic.

The rest if for people that actually want to use a mic for something worthwhile (maybe)
>>
anybody know any good broadcaster stand? i'm using mine for ham/audio recordings and want something that's easily movable out of the way without falling apart like those chink 30$ ones.
>>
>>58901103
Is that an inline pre?

Not trying to give you shit, but
>why an inline preamp for a dynamic, especially since Focusrite pres are good, and that mic is just *ok*?
>why the fuck don't you just get a patch cable?
>>
>>58901143
What's your budget?
I use the Rode PSA-1, and it's fucking great. Heil has one around the same price that's also really nice.

>>58901161
Yep, a pre-preamp, I needed more gain. Before it would only pick me up if I was an inch away, now it can pick up dogs barking from 300FT away.
>>
>>58901206
That's kind of not the point of a dynamic, dude...

If you wanted a really sensitive mic, shoulda gone with a condenser. Dynamics are *supposed* to reject noise, and have a healthy signal from about 4-6 inches away
>>
>>58900550
>a bunch of bullshit buzzy memewords
>"you need to spend hundreds of dollars on a mic or it's shit"

The $35 Neewer NW700 + a $50 USB DAC with XLR input (like the Behringer Xenyx 302USB) will get you sound quality that is 99% "perfect" and all but the most experienced sound engineers (even then) wouldn't be able to tell you spent less than $90 on your recording setup.
>>
>>58901268
>recording related
http://vocaroo.com/i/s01PhIBIO5EI

Yes I realize my voice sounds like ass right now. And Vocaroo's quality is complete shit so even headset mics probably sound the same on there. There was another website that actually allowed you to create high quality recordings that aren't stored as 64kbps MP3s... Can't remember what it's called though.
>>
>>58901268
Are you fucking high?

A toddler can tell the difference between a $100 and a $300 mic, much less a $50 one.

Also
>Xenyx series
Went from the Xenyx 1202, to the Akai EIE Pro, and holy shit, what a difference. Moved up to a Focusrite, and while the difference was a bit smaller, it's still really fucking noticable.

If you, personally, can't tell the difference between mics at those price ranges, you should stick to the USB section, my friend.
>>
>>58901339
Just like wine snobs and just like audiophiles, audio recording is subject to the placebo effect and snobbery. I guarantee in a side-by-side comparison of say, a $50 mic and a $500 mic, you would correctly identify each one exactly 50% of the time, because you'd be guessing.

I really hate snobs, and I especially hate snobs who think they're technically literate. Given a 20Hz-20kHz sweep fed through a cheap mic and an expensive mic, and looking at the spectrogram of the recording, ***maybe*** you'd be able to tell them apart. Maybe. But probably not, because recording is a solved science.

I'd ask you to record something with a cheap mic and then use an expensive mic, but I know you would deliberately fuck up the recording on the cheap mic, whether it's conscious or not.

Is there a difference between the mic on a $20 headset and a $60 condenser? Absolutely. Is there a difference between a $60 condenser and one that costs 20x as much? A subtle one, very subtle, at best.
>>
>>58901399
1. I said a toddler can tell the difference, because literally just the other day I was recording, and letting my son fiddle around with one of my spare mics. An old $60 off brand thing. He had no idea which mic was which, but he asked me if he could use the "good" mic, "because it sounds better".
Yes, i know, anecdotal, at best, but lets try this.

The OP mentions a podcast, my podcast, actually, just below the title.

It's a complete shitfest nobody should ever listen to and I recommend you only listen to 5 seconds at a time, to spare yourself from the garbage that is my shitty hobby. But in the interest of experimentation, Google it, and have a listen to some of Episode 1, recorded on that same, cheap mic I mentioned earlier. Then, have a listen to the latest one.

"Frank" is using a midrange Electrovoice dynamic (I've completely forgotten the name) only about a $180 mic, new, but it really suits his voice. "Kinder" is using a Heil PR40, around $300-$350 new.

Compare.

Im thinking about getting a Modmic 4.0 and the USB adapter. I have no sound card or anything of the sort.

Ive been using a mic I cut out of a 10 year old steelseries headset for years.

Am I falling for a meme?
>>
>>58901542
Yes, but it sounds like you're just fooling around for the most part, and fiddling with stuff is fun, so have at it, champ.

Bonus points: Start buying cheap mics and replacing the capsules/ modifying them. Literally hours of "fun"

fucking kek
>>
>>58900550
So judging by this picture, why would anyone buy a condenser mic?
>>
>>58901692
Most people don't need one.

But they are generally better for singing and some instruments, and they do have "better" sonic qualities, in a treated environment.

They're also good for streaming faggots who want people to be able to hear them, but don't want a headset messing up their perfect hair, or a properly placed mic in their Webcam shot.
>>
>>58901256
Nah I turned it down, I sit up to 8 inches from it, and it works fine

>and you can, too!

Because I needed literally 8db more gain.
>>
Say I want to get into streaming. I just bought a modmic 5 for general purpose mic use. What's the minimum upgrade pricing for seeing a noticable difference in mic performance, and what kind of improvement could I expect over a modmic?
>>
>>58901826
Did you turn it up in the Focusrite mixing software, and check your windows volume settings, (I assume you're using Windows) and whatever software you were using?

I almost refuse to believe the Focusrite couldn't push a 48, by itself. I've had some ridiculously hungry mics through mine, and made it work, before.

>>58901834
Modmic is trumped pretty hard by pretty much any mic over $100. For streaming, unless you want a mic in your face all the time, you might ought to pick up a condenser. Even the Yeti is miles ahead.
>>
>>58901924
Dang, $40 is a good deal on an inline. How's the noise?
>>
>>58901944
It isn't as bad as my background. And I filtered it out

yea those seem like the only two in the 100~ price range. probably will settle for the heil.

Audio n00b here, need some advice for using my shuresm58 with my PC. Any tips for what interface/preamp I could use with it?
>>
>>58903549
focusrite scarlet 2i2
>>
>>58903779
Nigga that's quite pricey. Anything around the same for less(like something with 1 channel) or am I going to have to go for this?
>>
>>58903985
Scarlett Solo.

If you want UBER cheap, you could get away with a Behringer USB mixer, but if you ever upgrade mics, you'll almost certainly have to upgrade to a better interface.
