my little brother has headphone autism, what I use are sennheiser 598's because of comfort, he has an entire range of shit that is 200$ to little over 1000$ and has me listen to all of them.

outside of quarks like one is better for bass, one is better for treble, the noticeable differences kind of end around 'these headphones cost around 500$ new' territory.

he does have a 1000$ hifi man that is clearly better than everything else, but compared to my sennheiser, its no fucking 850$ better.

If you want to delude youself and think there is no justifification in the headphones that cost more, be that way, never put something good on your head though because once you know what you are missing its hard to live without. even what I have right now is just because I liked the color more and because sennheiser redid the plastic blend so it doesn't crack, otherwise a pair of 558's after you take the foam on the back off is just as good for around 100$

Like I said though, there is a 37$ superflex that has the build quality of a 80$ headphone and the sound of a 150-200$, there are a few budget brands that perform way above where they should, but you are not getting a sub 100$ that's knocking a 500$ off its pedestal.

That said, and if you want to pay attention to it, Monolith M1060 are coming later in the month, these stand a good chance of being the definitive giant killer headphone where if they do perform as good as paper indicates, you cant really pay for better, sure there are things like the orpheus, but really, either 8000$ or 21000$ isn't worth that last .05% of quality, to top it off it appears you also won't need an amplifier to drive them either.
