It's already the year 2017.

Why do you still block ads?

That said. If you still block ads, you have ten seconds to post why you do.

Excuses like these will only get you nowhere, especially if you're on a stable connection ;

- Adware/Malware/Spyware. Sure, the exception's there if you're dumb/stupid to enough to infect yourself somehow.
- "I don't like ads"
- Page load times.
- "YouTube ads" are basically useless excuses now. You're either smart or dumb enough to not download YouTube videos and watch them in your preferred qualities and resolutions in your preferred media player(s) and likely dumb enough to not have autoplay disabled somehow. YouTube Red is basically YouTube ad-free, you've no excuse to even use your ad blocker here anymore.

Reminder that if you still block ads up to this very day and year ; YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM, not the advertisers.

What's your excuse this time, /g/?

Because I don't like seeing them. Is that a fucking problem? I don't like them wasting my space and time.
If people don't block them, that makes them effective, meaning there will then be more. If they become ineffective, maybe content creators won't have to get money from annoying their users and instead by actually making a quality product.

Advertisement is a known failed business model and has never worked on the Internet.

Fools who attempt to obtain a large percentage of their operating income from advertisement deserve to get shut down and will rightfully be replaced by more intelligent businesses (yes, faggot you are a business) with more intelligent business models.

Well I guess it's a good thread to shill this uBlock fork:

https://adnauseam.io/

It works exactly like uBlock except it fakes ad clicks in a sandbox so it wastes money for advertisers.
You know it must be good because Google specifically banned it from being installed on Chrome (except in developer mode). Install it, use it instead of uBlock (fully compatible with all uBlock features and lists), and destroy internet ads forever.

I hate that they're getting all up in arms about adblock when there was no outrage or resistance from them when it was shitting all over the medium.

what the fuck. you're not even replying to anyone.

I'm willing to bet you're the OP, and that you're so fucking frothing at the mouth with this tumor of an idea in your brain pushing on the gland that regulates aggression. Some becky at the office or your mom voiced the opinion that blocking ads is stealing, or worse yet, a buzzfeed article appeared in your fucking plebbit or facebook feed. You couldn't retort or think of a witty comeback at the time, so you spent your day moping and coming up with all the reasons why adblocking isn't 'immoral'. At this point, you NEED to argue about this topic or you will implode. So you made this thread, hoping, pleading, begging that people would come to voice an opinion that was always contrarian to begin with, but is now just a troll meme that people pull out to get guaranteed replies. You made or posted in this thread because you have succumbed to 'rant culture' or 'callout culture'. Fuck you. This isn't twitter or culture. Evidently you know nothing about Google.
Google is a behemoth of a company whose services are so widespread that if one of their sources of revenue were cut off, they would still be able to survive. Are you even aware of how they make money nowadays? It's not through just ads. Advertisements are merely a very widespread and very consumer-conscious form of revenue for them. To them, advertisements are literally them throwing shit on a wall and seeing what sticks. And it turns out that by developing their own mobile environment, they along with Apple and Microsoft can force a lot of that shit to stick.

They do government contracts, scientific research, consumer product development, ISP, and much more.

The only company that is arguably more ubiquitous than Google is Amazon.

Your stupidity has no bounds and you understand nothing of business. Not only does Google a supremely intelligent business model, that post was tailored towards SMALL BUSINESS and news corporations, who chiefly complain about adblockers.

In fact, all these websites complaining about adblockers should be a big fucking red flag for you that the business model does not work. You ape.

>- Adware/Malware/Spyware
>- "I don't like ads"
>- Page load times.
>- "YouTube ads"
All of the above. And I don't owe you shit.

But here's my main reason anyway: it's mostly because ads always turn abusive. They can't just have a tiny bar on the side, it has to scream at you, the page has do be filled with so many ads you have a hard time seeing the content you want, and it more than often obscures the view of what you're trying to see, or it tries to trick you into clicking it by mistake.

It stops you from doing what you're doing just to force you to see the same shit video that's way too long screaming some bullshit in your face.

Compare it to irl. I don't mind an ad poster in a store window, but I do mind people stopping me in the streets to sell me shit, or incessantly call me on the phone assuming I'll buy some outlandish crap for no reason.
>>
>>58888374
>- Adware/Malware/Spyware. Sure, the exception's there if you're dumb/stupid to enough to infect yourself somehow.
You say this like people have a say in the matter.
Some of the malware doesn't need interaction to get installed on your computer. The most successful malware is like that.

The main reason why I won't support sites through advertising is that the ad networks take no accountability for putting malware into their networks.
Through poor vetting of clients they deliver malware to hundreds of thousands of devices a year and they suffer nothing directly from it. People who get the malware blame the sites that they visited. The advertising provider doesn't have to pay damages to anyone. Many normals have to take their computers to shops to get them cleaned and you know that's going to cost upwards of $60.

It just isn't a logical system to support.

It's really a long term game. The goal is to make a brand familiar because if you ever do want to buy something, seeing a familiar brand might give you the false idea of knowing it. Thing's like bigdata are also looking how you react to ads to learn more about various thing's.

With that being said, the whole marketing world is a gigantic bubble that could explode in a few year's and collapse a lot of businesses. It's why YouTubers are making less money per viewer.

See, I never understood this reasoning. You don't want to watch ads to force content creators to make better content to not need ads... but then how exactly is a content creator supposed to get to that point without making any money, and how exactly is making a better quality product going to make them money if you still don't watcch the ads?

I don't care if you use adblockers, but stop arguing you are doing it for creators sakes rather than your own selfish convinience. That's why essentially everyone does it, and why privacy quacks who also use adblocks are so fucking annoying.
>>
>>58893317
>but then how exactly is a content creator supposed to get to that point without making any money
They're not.
If they need ad funding to improve the quality of what they do then all you are doing is betting on a potential gain somewhere in the future.

Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't, but considering the security of your computer is at stake there is no reason to take that risk.

>- Adware/Malware/Spyware. Sure, the exception's there if you're dumb/stupid to enough to infect yourself somehow.
Yeah, nah. Malware and spyware have made their way into "legit" ad networks on respectable websites, and with an otherwise sensible setup with no adblock, you can get infected.
>- "I don't like ads"
I don't care if you don't like this as a reason, because it's reason enough for me. I fast-forwarded ads on videotapes, skipped over ads in digital videos, and ignored ads in print to the best of my ability, and I'm going to continue blocking web ads.
>>
Because Adsense ads are shitty, look at Carbon's ads and you will see how clean they are, I would disable my adblocker if all ads are like Carbon

I installed adblocking on over 5000 PCs entirely with the purpose of preventing malware. It worked better than I could have ever imagined.

Fuck off and get a real job.

when i surf on web sites with ads, i generate click-money. yet i get no compensation what so ever for surfing on your site. why should you keep the profit and not share with me, the one who generates it?

"but you get to access my content" you say. That's bullshit and we both know it, because your content is shit. If it actually was good, you would be able to sell it because there would be a demand, but there isn't, because you lack talent & skills.

ad-sponsored content is just financial life support for sub-par content that can't be sold for profit. It's a way for delusional artists to effectively lie to them selves in order to shield them from the cold, hard truth.

> YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM

Maybe so.

But it turns out that I've got no issue with being "the fucking problem".

Why?

Glad you asked.

Because, as it turns out: I. Don't. Care.

See, you just made up a fantasy in your mind that I owe you something.

So this "problem" you're talking about is really just a make-believe thing that you created out of thin air.

So, now, you tell me: Why should I give a shit about your little fantasy world?

>"YouTube ads" are basically useless excuses now.

I'd rather dl youtube.
>>
>>58888374
if you like aids it's your problem OP
>>
I'm fine with web designers placing banners or things of the sort for advertisement, but when I find myself actively fighting with an advertisement, either because it obscures the content I'm reading, or forces me through a redirect, then I'm fine with disabling such an advertisement. Note here that most adblockers allow for the prior form of advert to be displayed, and to only block the latter form, which we should rightfully be discouraging any company from using in the first place by blocking it.
>>
ads are malicious, period.

if they were not I would not care so much.
>>
>>58888374
Because, despite it being 2017, so many sites become unusable with adds.
I don't even block, but I've gotten so fucking close to at points. Just too many addblockers around and I don't know which to use.

Why? Because they're fucking annoying. No I don't want to watch a 30 second ad for a one minute video. No I don't want to wait for ten ads to load before I can read some text.
I don't about the "one weird trick" or candy crush or how to get rich overnight.
Nor do I give a single fuck about your revenue. The internet is an entertainment sandbox to me and you content recyclers are the show. And I want that with minimal "GIVE ME MONEY GIVE ME INFO LOOKIE HERE" interruptions.
Sorry you can't break even? I don't care if you stop producing, replacements are lined up at the door.

I will always block ads because it pisses off whiney bloggers, but they could be less intrusive.

Maybe technology should just stop because you say so so you can make money

People blocks ads because they can. Everything else is irrelevant and coming from parties that are incapable of evolving
