I unironically like VS Code and it's replaced Sublime Text for me.

They release updates on a schedule and it's improved leaps and bounds since release. And it's open source, cross platform, etc etc. I'm liking it

Certainly not Visual Bullcrap "code"
The golang plugin is broken OOTB. Not to mention VS compiled C++ programs are spyware.

A company that embeds spyware in a compiler is a good company to keep away from. Period.

this, I've been using notepad++ forever but I switched to VS code for coding and I'm not looking back. I mainly use it as a text editor though.

There is this clang plugin which works well

That didn't change since it's still browser based. That being said, of all webshit editors it's the fastest by far.

For the VS code users:

How does it compare to Sublime? Switched over from IntelliJ products about two years ago and haven't looked back. Sublime fulfills all my needs (besides not having a decent Kotlin syntax, but I don't use the languages frequently enough to care so much about that).

Red pill me

Sublime is a text editor, Visual Studio is an IDE.

VS Code is a hybrid - I've been using it and actually like it.

It's slower to start up than Sublime, but it's more powerful. At the same time it keeps from being bloated like e.g. full blown Visual Studio.

It's free, open source and cross platform. Try it out for a few days and see what ya think.

I gave it a try, but it just seems like it's trying to do everything at once and become your singular everything when it comes to programming.

Using git, nano, gcc and gdb, I already do everything from the command line following the unix philosophy of one program doing one thing well.
I'd rather not have to retrain myself to use the programming tools I take for granted.

It does. I'm not him, but I hate vim with a vengeance. The keybindings are awful, it can't do proper multi-cursor editing, search-and-replace is a pain in the ass, plugins are like playing the fucking lottery, etc.

But god dammit, everything else is even worse!

Electron used to be called Atom Shell you moron. Of course it has a bunch of stuff from Atom. That's not really the point. I mean, it kind of is, because Electron is the main reason VSC sucks dicks, but the editor component and UI and core plugins and so on are all written by Microsoft.

It just seems like one-upsmanship.
Their CRUD jobs are boring so they end up writing fancy solutions to problems that don't exist.

And that's why people have 5000 vim plugins.
You know they spend more time ricing their editor than writing code.
>>
Is it possible to speed up vs code startup time ?
I love it, but when it comes to editing some random files outside the project dir, I can't stand the long start up time. Takes up to 10s to start on laptop with ssd and i7-4712mq.

I have no extensions installed.
