I've never seen that before is that a barcode of sorts?
>>
>>58886412
Yes. Back in the day the operating systems were so small in size you could fit in a bar code, then you could just scan it to boot Windows which saved a lot of valuable hard disk space.
>>
>>58887687
Application programs were distributed in magazines this way.
There was a special scanner - the "Cauzin Softstrip Reader".
You scanned the barcode into you computer and ran the program.

I still think the flexible soundsheet records that you'd use by plugging your record player into your computer were cooler.
>>
>>58888171
You could recreate the same thing today and actually get people to use it as some sort of "new innovative tech" and people will fall for it

One second, let me get my CueCat.

Windows Startup List
Attention! Before use, read these instructions
1. The boot list can only be used with a flatbed scanner, having the SCSI-interface.
2. Ensure that your computer supports booting from SCSI. To do this, see the documentation for the motherboard. Follow the instructions on your computer of the manufacturer to adjust the SCSI boot from the Setup menu.
3. Place the Windows boot sheet into the scanner. At the same time the top of the sheet should be placed to the top of the tablet scanner, and the front side - facing the scanner glass.
4. Close the lid and make a download.
5. In case of failure, check the correctness of the settings and correct placement of the sheet in the scanner.

This technique was still being used in the 2000's. Nintendo released the E-Reader for the GBA and you could use it to load games off of cards. According to Wikipedia they were still making these cards until 2008.
>>
>>58889914
I almost forgot about those. I remember hearing about people using the E-Reader as a less expensive way to get into running home brew games back in the day.
>>
it doesn't look like there is 50 million bytes on that piece of paper

there is no way you can compress 50MB into that square

Nice fake
>>
>>58889914
I had one, it was a bit better in Japan where more cards were released. Still, the idea was cool. NES games sure they took a couple cards but worked, animal crossing cards were cool, new maps in mario 2 were cool, pokemon had the eon ticket card and battle cards were a cool addition to a battle frontierless game. Not to mention the best pokemon card set having ereader cards, sure it was a gimmick but it was a nice touch and made collecting evolutionary chains all that much better since you typically needed it for the 'full experience'

This is actually pretty smart. Never knew this existed.
it's great for long term indestructible storage.
Not on paper of course. ..

What the fuck? I been using computers since the early 90s and this is the first I've ever heard of this.

That's because it's niche as fuck. A bit like 90s VR.
