There is no input.conf like said your link. Only a input-conf.gz in /usr/share/doc/mpv. I tried unpacking and changing the input in /usr/share/doc/mpv. Didn't work. Tried repacking it to input.conf.gz in /mpv. Didn't work. How do I do I change this shit now?

Quality should be controlled with meta fields, e.g:
bestvideo[height<=<number>][vcodec=<codec>]+bestaudio
